  • We are quite comfortable, but lowish income, so I would rather it be in "something" that beats inflation, maybe plonk it in HSBC ?

Does anyone know what the running costs are for CTG, I hear varying amounts from .68% to 2.5% and which platform offers the best?

    Thanks again guys

I tried to explain this to you in your previous thread with links to the Capital Gearing Trust reports on their website, in my posts #25 and #51.

The cost of running the investment trust are the same wherever you buy it - there is only one share class listed on the London stock exchange, that could be bought by a stockbroker or investment platform.

Different platforms have different trading costs or platform fees to buy/sell and hold investment trusts and it generally costs the same price to hold an investment trust like CGT as it would cost to hold most types of company shares. Sometimes, stockbrokers or investment platforms charge more if you want to hold it in a tax wrapper such as an ISA. (Eg Hargreaves Lansdown charges 0.45% of your IT/ ETF / individual shares per year inside an ISA, up to a certain cap, but nothing if you just want to hold it in a general investment account without an ISA). Some fixed fee platforms or brokers are very competitive e.g. X-o.co.uk or IWeb.

It's quite convenient to hold all the investments of a portfolio all on one platform and see it all on one place, so your choice might be coloured by whatever else you are buying (eg the other 75% of your money that might be in a Vanguard fund, a Lindsell Train fund, and an HSBC fund).
