Gas Meter Point Reference number
Is there any way to check that I am being charged for gas from the correct meter? I have checked that my meter corresponds to my address on the findmysupplier.energy website and it is correct.
I can't find any MPR printed on the meter.
I moved into a new build property 12 months ago and had a problem sorting out my first bill. The site manager told me they had originally mixed my meter up with the house across the road but it had since been sorted.
Should there be any information printed or otherwise on the meter to identify it?

If the bill you receive has an actual meter reading on it that corresponds to your meter, then the supplier is almost certainly reading the correct meter.
To establish which meter is yours, then a simple 'burn test' should be able to identify it. i.e. Ensure all gas appliances are off, and check the meter is not movinmg. Turn something on that burns gas and your meter should record usage. Do this a couple of times to ensure you accurately identify your meter.
Where is your gas meter? Usually it is located within your house or a meter cupboard on an external wall of your house. As a new build, your developer should have shown you this on handover. (and taken the meter readings with you) Unlikely to be located at the house across the road :cool:0 -
The MPR is not usually on the meter (but it will be on your bill), however the serial number of the meter is on both the meter (usually under the bar code) and your bill. If the meter serial number on your bill corresponds with the meter in the box outside your house (or wherever the meter is), then its fine.
Its quite common that meters in new build properties get mixed up due to the builders using plot numbers then making a mess of matching them to proper addresses once built.
Its more of an issue with flats, even more so when the meters are in a central cupboard, then you may need to try and do things like the burn test mentioned above.0 -
I have found the meter serial number on my bill and it does match the meter.
It seems my problem is with the "system" or "industry" as they call the mysterious middle men.0 -

More the house builders who never tell the companies which meter is where, or update from plot to house numbers so people take over teh wrong supplies.
Sounds like yours is a good one though. As long as your address with teh company does not say plot on it!0
