Cancelling but no terms and conditions

Hi, I booked a holiday which I have now decided to cancel. The travel agents have said I will lose my deposit (15%) and a £30 admin fee I paid when booking. I never received/was shown/agreed to any terms and conditions before or after booking the holiday so I'm not really sure where I stand with this. I also cannot find any terms or conditions on the company's website.
Does anyone have any advise please on whether I am entitled to any of my deposit money back?
Thanks

  • Pretty sure you would have signed something or checked a box to agree to something, in the giddyness of booking a holiday most people will sign anything they are given without reading. Losing a deposit is a standard term to be honest.

    Who is this with?

I definitely didn't sign or check any kind of box. I would rather not say the name of the travel agents due to ongoing disputes, but the travel agents run over facebook (there is a website but it isn't used much as far as I can see), I was given a quote via facebook messenger which I accepted and paid the deposit via credit card. I was then emailed a receipt/invoice for it, and that's it!
  • Oh and I have accepted that I wil lose the deposit and I'm fine with that, as it is what I would expect when it's me choosing to cancel, but just wondered if not receiving terms and conditions would make any difference.
  • So hang on here. You booked a holiday, including giving credit card details, over Facebook Messenger?

No, no I didn't give credit card details to anyone. I paid via their website using my credit card for extra protection.
Sorry my fault for saying their website wasn't used.

No not that I can see, and I have looked. I don't think the website is used much at all, there are only a couple of pages on the website for contact and payment. I believe it is 99% run through facebook. Yes it's UK based

Frankly, I wouldn't touch a business that operates through Facebook but I suspect this is a homeworker with a trading name beginning with an 'I'? If you have never been advised about any booking conditions you are in a strong position to argue there are none and certainly not cancellation charges.
If it is the company I think, none of the homeworkers has any previous experience in travel and probably have no idea of the need to explain the terms of the contract.

If it was a package holiday then, in fact, the law requires specific information is given to you before the booking is taken, including the fact that there are terms and conditions.......

    Ok - I will.

Is it InteleTravel where for just a one time £142 enrolment fee and then £32 per month "you can become a travel agent". Just like that.
