Comparison sites

Hi there.
I know there are a few comparison sites out there for gas and electricity but I'm a bit confused as to which are any good. Anyone out there had any experience with them and do they actually save you money?
Thanks in advance!

All of them compare the same way .
Savings depend upon what you are paying .
Paying a high rate means you will save .
Shrewd money savers already on best tariff save little .

NOTE savings are calculated under the rules against standard tariff .
  • Some companies have exclusive tariffs which are only available on specific sites.

These tend to be mostly for Uswitch (however would normally be from big 6 and a couple of others). So definitely at least check there.

Some sites do not show some of the lowest priced suppliers.Symbio Energy did not appear on the Cheap Energy Club, so check more than one

The savings quoted are illogical because they show what you save compared to doing nothing and going on to your supplier's standard rate - which you're obviously not going to do because you're on a comparison site looking for a deal.

However, what the sites can do is show you suppliers in order of cheapness for your consumption figures. Ignore the savings and look at the annual cost.

What the sites won't do is tell you whether separate suppliers are cheaper than a dual fuel deal. So do three searches - dual fuel, gas only, electric only- and work out which is cheaper.

By default most sites won't show you suppliers they don't get backhanders from, so you need to find the "show all suppliers" option to make the results worth looking at.

Make sure you know your annual consumption figures, in kWhrs, for gas and electricity and use these.

    ^^^ All of this ^^^
The MSE Cheap Energy Club is quite good. I've used it and got cashback. I've also used uSwitch (without cashback) and it went well. I've also gone direct through a supplier's site.

    This cannot be stressed enough...

Stick to those accredited by Ofgem.

I listed them in a recent thread here:
