Skoda Karoq at idle

Skoda Karoq 2.0 4x4 SEL DSG bought in September 5th 2018, since then when in drive it reverts to idle the first time being Sept 22.This has now happened 12 times and in some dangerous places such as the middle of a roudabout and on the motorway fortunately on the motorway the hard shoulder was still active. It has been back to Skoda on two occasions to be sorted. Unfortunately it is not a fault that can be replicated at will, therefore when investigated nothing could be found. In the places that it has happened it has been very difficult to stop e.g motorway, middle of a roundabout, to use the phone to video the dash board and anything else that might come in handy. Last week however I managed to stop in a place that enabled Skoda Assist to appear to check the system which resulted in two pages of problems which has been forwarded to Skoda. The vehicle is now with Skoda as well, we await results. My question is if I go to another manufacturer for a part exchange deal he will be less than keen when informed of the problem, therefore Skoda is my only hope of some kind of resolution. Can I expect a full refund if it is not fixed and continues to have this fault or can I reject the car for a new one? The vehicle can be restarted by stopping go into park and with foot on brake restart the car which seems to reset everything and it becomes driveable again. I can tell you from experience that it is not fun in the middle of a busy roundabout, it is bl***y dangerous. My wife has ceased driving the car unless I am in it which makes it all it bit more difficult

You need to let them fix it, which may mean extensive work.

Once you have had a lemon of a DSG you don't go near them again (been there have that T shirt).

You would have thought after over 10 years of well documented failures VAG would have managed to get something which was approaching reliable.
  • Its one of many known issues on the DSG as Daveyjp states been happening for a few years. Unfortunatly short of the gearbox pretty much getting ruined within the warranty period VAG/Skoda wont be any help on it.

Don't have one personally (dsg) but think I read recently that the newer ones have a 'coasting' function that drops the revs to idle in drive when it sees fit to do so. Wonder if that circuit/logic is playing up or may have been activated in the dsg controller when it shouldn't be?
Being an avid vagcom user it's easy to see how changing one parameter in any of the various controllers can cause nightmares. Intermittent faults can send you down a massive rabbit hole.
Garages often just play parts darts since time is money......good luck.
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?

You won't get a full refund as you've had a years use out of the car. What do you want to do? Would Skoda do a favourable part exchange on another car?

You might get better help on the consumer rights board.
