Responsibility for travel costs?

Often when there's a problem with the bank account, the bank will tell DWP and then the bank will forward the money to the correct account. It's a warning to DWP as further payments are unlikely to be accepted, so it's a priority to change the bank account.

DWP acted appropriately. Physical evidence of a bank account needs to be provided to the jobcentre. It would be irresponsible to say the least to pay into an unverified bank account, especially when you can't tell you're taking the details from the claimant. I'm guessing since you mentioned they typed in the details they were also extra nice to you and reported the change for you. This is something you really should've done yourself.

As it's a mandatory appointment, you should be covering travel costs yourself. I'm not going to suggest you're making up the money paid to you. I have unfortunately witnessed some select DWP staff breaking the rules and issuing money to people who are not entitled to it. These are 99 percent of the time persistent callers who either phone up dozens of times within one day, or insist on taking up the telephony agents time by staying on the line for over an hour insisting on talking to managers and not listening to what's being said. Managers also apoligise as default, even if they're sure the claimant is the one in the wrong. For some reason most managers hate confrontation. The higher you go on the food chain the more false apoligies are given.

I do however hope this isn't the case and you didn't take money you're not entitled to away from people who need it.
Amount left to pay on house = 64,400.

    Savings buffer = 1,028.75 of 2415.

    Next large expense = 159 of 483.
  • ^ Well said 11krage, especially the last sentence.

I appreciate you wanting to query it and I also understand how you feel about the principle of it - but like the others have said, the only way currently for DWP to responsibly ensure the money is going into the right account is for the proof to be verified in person. At some point the principle is not worth the time and effort it takes to get a satisfactory resolution. Now if they were calling you in every week then you might have had more sympathy.

I have been incredulous following this thread, and I am simply astounded at the resolution. A pity all those people who go hungry, homeless or even die before their benefits problems are sorted out didn't have such good fortune in their attempts to resolve their respective situations.

Actually, I did inform them that my total costs were £1.50, and that that was all I was claiming. Response was that they were offering £28 plus apology. I would think that they would be able to offer £1.50, but this is the choice they made.
The 'charity or similar organisation' to which the money is being donated is the Barclay's Ban Account of the sole representative of the Campaign for Me to have More Money, as, 1) I am a hypocrite, and 2) the monies are being sent to me, for my use, by a government agency, and I feel that it would be insulting to them to use it for a purpose other than that which they intended. With the DWP that may even be construed as fraud.

Hmmm if only there was a way you could make money another way that didn't involve frivolous complaints...

But if the second part of your posts is serious I can see why nobody wants to hire you; even the lowest paid jobs need some level of logical thought and intelligence :rotfl:
