I didn't think he was rude.

Would you like to start a poll....noting that you haven't posted any useful advice either?

Remember that this is a forum based around saving money. So those with a technical bent could use their expertise in saving the current Tablet. They could have experience and/or tools not available to the official support staff.
I can guarantee that most of the support I give here, is not available to the official support staff. They will just send you off to buy something.

When asking for help, it pays to be polite. Even if the help offered isn't exactly what you require.
Some people simply don't deserve help and are best left to their own devices until they learn that no one here owes them anything.
My ignore list is growing by the week.

On going back looking at the poster's history, it appears that there isn't a problem with the Tablet at all, other than the OS version being outdated.

With a bit of patience they can fix the problem by Flashing a later version of Android to the Tablet. With a cursory search I found Android 7.1.2 Nougat available. Cost? Absolutely nothing, other than patience.

Installing an APK might help, dependent on which version is currently running.

But installing a Custom ROM with a later version should bring the thing more up to date. Since you are planning to scrap it anyway, there is nothing to lose by doing so.

Lenovo or Google won't help in this situation. That is why it pays to be nice and to listen. If you already knew all of the answers, you wouldn't be asking here.
So stating that you doubt that anyone can find a solution because Lenovo and Google couldn't help, is ,quite simply, wrong and in turn, insulting.
Giving potential helpers short shrift. Unpleasant.
So now no one wants to bother.

You have an opportunity to turn it around.

If you are going to scrap the Tablet anyway, learn how to install a Custom ROM with a much updated version of Android.
The problem is that you made a relatively poor choice in buying a Tablet with Android 5.0.1.
It's not going to be updated by Lenovo. So the only way to salvage it is to install an independent version.
This is where people with similar issues come to together, so that they can keep using perfectly good hardware.

Nothing wrong with your hardware. Imagine that you have Windows XP installed and it is no longer supported.
But with a bit of help, you can install Windows 8.1...which is still supported(just an analogy)

No point in being upset with the manufacturers. They are pushing out huge amounts of hardware at all price levels. Not all are eligible for official software upgrades. But you can upgrade them by yourself to keep the thing in use.

Inconvenient? Perhaps. But satisfying when it works and have saved yourself from spending another £50 to £100 when you don't want to be forced to do so.

So how do I do that?

I wasn't going to scrap it, I can still play Candy Crush on it.

I just need something cheap with GPS to use with google maps as Waze or Map my Walk no longer work because of this.
