I've recently updated my partners car insurance with Hastings Direct.
She works for Aldi so instantly when the question asks "What industry do you work in" her answer was retail, as you input re... options for retailing came up and i clicked retailing.
We had an e-mail to confirm a few details yesterday with Hastings and my partner spoke to them, they insisted "retailing" is incorrect and changed it to "supermarket". They then charged £30 just for changing the word.
After speaking to my partner yesterday i decided to speak to Hastings to file it as a complaint, a simple google of the UK definition of retailing suggests i'm not wrong.
Hastings believe that they have done the right thing in changing the word and charging me £30 for the change.
They say "The option for supermarket is on the website". I agree it is, but when a question for "What industry do you work in" pops up i'm pretty sure most would enter retail. I personally work in the poultry industry however for me there is no option really other than "Agriculture" or is it "Farming" or is it something else....
Can you imagine how many people on any insurers technicality wouldn't be insured because of this?
Am i right?
What can i do to get my money back?
The complaints team were no good even though they all agreed i was right?!? And they can understand where i'm coming from...

They are 100% wrong and you should complain vehemently. Take it the Ombudsman if necessary.0
