Lost my credit card abroad

Hi,
I was robbed in Santiago -I'm still here btw- so I lost all my cards and even my passport. So, my question for you here is the following.
I called to the bank -Santander- to ask for a new credit card, but they say they cant send a new one to Santiago and that it is better to get that card sent to my place and then ask sb else to send it to me. I think that's a lack of professionalism on their part. Plus, I have to bother someone else to do this?
What should I do?

Do what they say, they've told you they won't send one abroad.

As the bank say get it sent to your home. Why would they send a card half way around the world to a non permanent address. Most professional imo.
  • Sounds like Santander are actually acting very professionally indeed.

That is great professionalism on their part.

You don't want to be with a bank who will just bang your credit cards out randomly across the globe.

how did you get robbed? What happened?
  • Perfect professionalism.

I’d say the lack of professionalism is on your part for only taking the one card with you abroad.

Gary it sounds like they were robbed of ALL their cards, so the question should be, why were they kept all together? Thus allowing ALL of them to be lost in one go. Of course we don’t know how they were all lost yet.

  • In my travels, I've never found a CC willing to send a card to a different address - whether because of expiry or loss. Indeed on occasion anticipating expiry of a card whilst away, I've asked if they can cancel it right away and send a new one with a later expiry to my usual address in advance of a trip but they've been unwilling to do this.

Years ago, American Express Chargecard could arrange an "emergency card" for collection at a local office - including an overseas office. I never needed this facility but a friend of mine said it was arranged in minutes.

I've had FirstDirect send me their bog standard credit card to a hotel in Dubai after i lost the original (wallet fell in Dubai creek ) It was sent by DHL, arrived in 2 days and required a signature from me, ie the hotel staff couldn't receive it & sign for it on my behalf.
