Hi so I am on JSA and get housing benifit at the moment, I have been offerd a job 16 hours a week and I am going to take it as I have been there 1 month on a trail and loved it.
I will be around £50 better off a week after paying £14.50 rent and £5 counil tax
as I still be getting housing benifit as I do not work enough hours to pay for it all,
Would I need to go on Universal Credit, At the moment I get the housing benfit paid straight to my lanlord from the Council and I would perfer this to be the same after starting working. I am unsure how the UC works and what happens when you leaving jsa and go in to work.
Thank you

How much UC you could claim will depend on your circumstances. Put your details into this benefits calculator and it will tell you.Annom12121 wrote: »Hi so I am on JSA and get housing benifit at the moment, I have been offerd a job 16 hours a week and I am going to take it as I have been there 1 month on a trail and loved it.

Do be aware that if you claim tax credits then a claim for UC will end your tax credits. Housing benefit will continue for 2 weeks and then transfer to UC,
Were you being paid for the trial you did? If so did you tell DWP that you've been working?0 -
Hi no it was 1 month trail through the Job center them selfs unpaid work.
So would I have to go on UC then even thou I wouldnt be signing off and only getting a % housing benfit paid?
Thanks0 -
No, you don't have to claim UC at all. However, if you're working 16 hours per week then you won't be entitled to any JSA and this will end.Annom12121 wrote: »Hi no it was 1 month trail through the Job center them selfs unpaid work.

If your JSA ends and you don't go to UC, if you were claiming for 26 weeks I believe, you will be entitled to a run on of housing benefit, someone might want to confirm this though that has more experience in this area?0

Working just 16 hours a week then the OP may still be entitled to some housing benefit but this will depend on circumstances. Of course they will need to report the changes to their local council. If your JSA ends and you don't go to UC, if you were claiming for 26 weeks I believe, you will be entitled to a run on of housing benefit, someone might want to confirm this though that has more experience in this area?0
