English Heritage DD

Hello all.
Just wondering if anyone could advise me on something.
I recently cancelled my English Heritage membership, before the direct debit was due. When speaking to an online adviser, I was told the direct debit has already been requested and will be taken, but I will be issued a refund. Sure enough the amount went out.
I gave it a week and saw nothing in my account, so I followed up.
I was then told that the refund would take up to 28 days.
Although claiming DD indemnity would have been quicker, i assume I was at fault for leaving it so late to cancel. Still, 28 days seems a tad long.
Is 28 days normal for such a situation?
Much appreciated.
