Private sale, postage costs

Hi everyone, this is my first post and looking for some advice as I have trawled the internet and cannot find an answer.
I sold an item through Facebook marketplace and I was asked if I could deliver it. I quickly received payment and I dispatched the item.
During delivery the item was damaged and when the recipient received them, messaged me almost two weeks later stating that they were badly damaged and bent. I was sent photos and agreed that it wasn’t the condition that I sent them in.
I contacted the courier who admitted liability and was refunded two thirds of the cost (as I didn’t insure them for as much as the value they where)
I contacted the recipient and asked for them to be kindly returned to me so that I can dispose of them. I offered a refund for the item and the cost of return delivery. However, the recipient is saying that I should be liable for the refund of the item and it’s inital delivery, as well as another delivery cost for its return to me.
Could anyone shed any light on this for me?

Sounds fair. Why should the buyer be out of pocket?
Not their fault you under insured.
You should refund then the full amount they paid you and add on the cost of postage to get the item back if you want it back.
They will be exactly where they started no item but all their money.

I also do not see why the buyer should be left out of pocket.0

If the courier has paid out, why do you want the item back. Can you not come to an agreement with the buyer to dispose and you refund, thus avoiding the need for any returns postage to be paid. That way you can refund the full payment and avoid unnecessary expenditure.0
