Best place to buy packing boxes

Not sure if this is the right place but, we have a buyer for our house and they have had the survey and searches done. As we can't find anything we like to buy we are going to put our stuff in self storage and go stay with my mum.
I am looking for the best place to buy boxes so I can start packing up, I have seen them in Argos but seem expensive, I also want to buy plain paper for wrapping china as last time used newspaper and everything got dirty.
Thanks

Have a look on Ebay. Some really good packages on there from established sellers with good feedback. We got a better pack than Pickfords were selling for about 30% of the price including delivery. The pack we bought included boxes, tissue paper, bubble wrap, tape + extras like a tape dispensing gun.0

Also, pick up melon / pineapple / fruit boxes from your naerest large supermarket...the ones with rigid corners. They are just the right size for CD's, DVD's, paperbacks - pack them so they are spine upwards, in rows...then stack them up in a corner until you've moved0

Whatever you do, DON'T buy from one of the storage places like Big Yellow or Safe Store - they charge crazy amounts.
Woolworths sell 5 and 10 packs for around £10 and you can order online or through the store. Why not look for a big roll of butchers paper instead of using newspaper?
Don't forget a marker pen to label them (or a fat crayon - even cheaper) and packing tape.0 -
If you live near an Ikea they do really cheap packing boxes. We discovered this the day after we moved.:mad:0

Try your local recycling site as when we moved we took our boxes down there to recycle and they were snapped up quickly.
Also ask you local removal firms as they someitmes provide boxes free to the people they move or sell old ones off for about 20p each.
Local supermarkets crush theirs but ifyou ask they will save some for you.
Ebay is good for bubble wrap i got something like 75m for £7 when this sells in the shops for 2m for £1.99!!!!0 -
I buy mine from my local removals company who also do storage. They aren't cheap as such but they are good quality professional boxes. If you are putting stuff into store you need something like 18" cube double walled boxes so that they can be stacked without collapsing. Single walled are OK for smaller boxes but even then there is a huge variety in strength. Think how well the boses you choose will stack up to six or so feet high.
For the paper removals companies sell reams of white news offcuts. This is like newspaper but isn't printed on.
For tissue paper you need acid free if wrapping delicate and valuable items and for plastics like say old dolls. The acid in paper and cardboard will discolour the items if left wrapped for a long time.
You need vinyl tape, again of good quality and a tape gun.
I like my local removals company as they keep the boxes clean and dry, some places keep them a bit scruffy.
You can also look to see if there is a local box manufacturer nearby.
The problems with ordering packs online is you can't tell the quality. For storage I wouldn't want the hand hold openings either I'd want a sealed box.0 -
look at your local www.freecycle site. People often offer their boxes for nothing once they've moved... we certainly did!“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”
