  • I've been listening to a lot of Dave Ramsey Podcasts this week!
I feel more motivated now to get my finance sorted out.
Had another look at my situation and looking at it in another way and with a fresh mindset is actually getting me excited for the future.
If I follow the Dave Ramsey steps, I need to do the following steps:
    1. Save £2,000 for car (not part of the Dave Ramsey plan but a huge priority for me right now)
    2. Save £1,000 for emergency fund
    3. Pay off credit card - £2,900 left
    4. Pay off holidays in full  - £3,000
    5. Save 6 months emergency fund - £10,800
    6. Save up for house deposit
    7. Save 15% of income for retirement fund
    8. Pay off mortgage

Feels like it will take forever to do all this!! But I'm putting together a budget ready for payday this month and going to get some time lines in place so I have an idea of how long it will take me to get to Step 7.
    Overdraft: -475.14/£1,500
    Emergency Fund: 0/£1,000
    Debt: 0/£3,600
    House Deposit: 0/£20,000
  • So car has been bought!!! I managed to get a decent second hand run around for £1500 and was able to pay cash for it.
So proud of myself!  I know nothing about cars so spent my time researching and trying to find a good deal. I really wanted to get a brand new car but that would have meant leasing and the cars I was looking at would have been around £250-300 a month.  So after a lot of thinking and listening to a lot of Dave Ramsey, I realised that a car paid off in full in cash is much better for the long term for me. And I don't need a super brand new fancy car.  I managed to get a fancy enough car, although a little old, for a very reasonable price!
That's one major stress taken off my list now.  It had been stressing me out a lot!

Now I can start focusing on my next step which is saving up my £1000 emergency fund!
    Overdraft: -475.14/£1,500
    Emergency Fund: 0/£1,000
    Debt: 0/£3,600
    House Deposit: 0/£20,000
  • I'm back!
I started this diary September last year and I seem to constantly get sidetracked with life thinking I'm ok getting on with tackling my finances and along the way have a major crisis and then realise that I'm not!
I really do want to have my own home by the time I'm 40 and I'm realising that as every month goes by, the closer I'm getting to 40 and the less closer I am to my own home.
A few things have changed since my last post.
I'm still in debt and still have no savings but I feel like I'm in a much better position to tackle them.
But since my last post, I've gotten a second job to help up my income! Although the hours are killing me, I'm so grateful that I was able to get a second job during such difficult times and the fact that it will help me reach my goals quicker.
I work 3 extra hours a day before my full time day job, with the possibility to pick up extra shifts if they are available on weekends and evenings.
I currently live at home so my outgoings aren't that much - but they could be better!

    Monthly Income: £2,300
    Monthly Outgoings:
    Gym: £80
Phone (Handset): 66.45 (Last payment in June 2021)
    Phone Contract: £32.37
    Car Insurance: £87.51
Holiday: £191.67 (last payment in December 2020)
    Petrol: £80
    Hair: £75
    Food: £100
    Total: £713

I would like to save up the following:
    1. Get out of Overdraft - £1,500
    2. Save £1,000 Emergency Fund
    3. Pay off £3,600 credit card bill
    3. Save £20,000 for a house deposit

I'm hoping that my pay from my main job at the end of this month will get me out of my overdraft and I can start living off the money I make from my second job.
I'm hoping that by the end of the year I will have my Emergency Fund saved up.
Then from the start of 2021 I can focus on my credit card debt and start seriously house deposit saving!
It's been a process to get to this stage, a lot of selling things, making cutbacks and I have a long way to go yet!
I'm still trying to think of ways I can make some extra income in the evenings/weekends to help boost my income in the short term, especially to help with my credit card debt.
