Where to Buy Quality Furniture

Does anyone have any suggestions for good quality furniture that doesn't cost the earth?
I'm specifically after a double/wide chest of drawers in a mid-century style. I'd like it to be solid wood and good quality but am really struggling to find anything in my budget. I'm happy to spend up to £400 for something that is perfect but obviously would prefer less. I can only seem to find poor quality non-wood ones for £200ish or solid, nice ones for £700+ and nothing in between.
I'm going to trawl some antiques shops at the weekend, but does anyone have any online suggestions of where to look? I feel as if I've tried everywhere!

Have a look on eBay, Gumtree etc.
Do you have any local charity shops or second hand shops selling furniture?A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0 -
Check out your local auction houses. 'Brown furniture' isn't a great seller and it's possible to pick up some real bargains that way.0

Budget is rather tight for brand new, solid wood IMO. You may need to compromise with second-hand or 'seconds' or part-veneer.
Wanting double-width means large/ premium slabs of wood, less opportunity for the manufacturer to use the smaller/ cheaper offcuts. And the piece will be expensive for the seller to transport, adding to the final price.
Have you looked at MADE.com and La Redoute (permanent discount code)? Both have some sturdy wood furniture and some retro styles.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
I'd be very wary of "solid wood" modern furniture.

Some of it's really badly made as well.
The secret to getting bargains is not to be in too much of a hurry.
Decent quality mid century furniture will be cheap enough if you look around, and in general better made than modern stuff.0 -
Thanks everyone, more than happy to go second hand so will look at all the suggested places. I'm going to have a look in some local antiques shops over the weekend too.
If all else fails, there are some that I really like on Made.com (have bought from there previously and really happy with quality), but nothing that's really jumping out at me. I haven't looked at La Redoute though so will do.
I know the double fronted nature of it is what's making it most difficult - I just want it to fit a specific space. Perhaps two smaller ones side by side could work.0 -
If you're not in a hurry let the google algorithms find it for you!! I was looking for a "grey bench" to go in my bedroom and after a couple of months made.com was presented online - clearly my cookies lead me to it ....like Hansel & Gretel out of the wood!
I would also have a mooch around second hands shops, auctions and charity places. Keep a good eye online too - I bought a Multiyork sofa for £249 delivered via eBay (when I wanted a 2 seater sofa for less than £250).
Sometime you have to think creatively to get what you want so don't be too tired to one look or vision for the piece!0 -

Gumtree can be good. Older Ercol is solid wood, modern sometimes uses veneers. If you don’t mind work, you can refinish a solid wood item. It can look superb if done well. There may be other brands. Modern stuff tends to be mediocre or pricey. Furniture tends to plummet in value once second hand, hence Gumtree and maybe ebay.0
