Resizing Web Pages for Widescreen

I have recently changed monitors from a large 4:3 to widescreen and upgraded OS to W10. I prefer IE but have to use Chrome sometimes.
The problem I'm having is that I am continually resizing pages using Cntrl +/-. Is there a way to default all pages to preferred size, font etc.
Also I am writing this post on MSE which only populates 50% of the screen with wide white borders left and right - can that be reconfigured too.

I use Chrome with the uBlock extension.
I also use MSE with the old green skin.
I have custom filters setup in uBlock to get rid of most of the advertising "kludge" and stretch the display to pretty much the full screen width.forums.moneysavingexpert.com###MSEForumsRHS forums.moneysavingexpert.com###forum_top_1336472146 forums.moneysavingexpert.com###MSEResourceBar forums.moneysavingexpert.com###theWrapper forums.moneysavingexpert.com###footer forums.moneysavingexpert.com##.forum_container:style(width: 99% !important)

I am using the green skin version of MSE forum and it only populates 50% but for example https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/ populates the entire screen.
It it down to the host how they present their page.
Thanks for the advice re. UBlock and the script. Do I assume you therefor configure it for all sites you visit regularly,0 -
I just leave it as it is;

Doesn't bother me. What advertising?

Very textual content reads better in narrower formats.
That why we use portrait paper and newspapers split into columns.0 -

Maybe not ads per se ... just screen clutter with the sidebars (mainly). I just like a cleaner viewport to this forum.

Sorry - when I quoted your reply I noticed you had an image embedded, presumably a screenshot of your view. I can't see that image from here.
If I turn off uBlock the forum reverts to default green view. This means I see all the links across the top, and all the right hand sidebar elements (How to contact us, Forum Jump, Free MoneySaving Email, etc.), and a lot of wasted screen space (in my opinion). I don't want to see these things and lose that space - I prefer the forum to use up the width of my browser window, hence the filters I use.

It might be worth having a play around with scaling and resolution for your monitor https://www.pcworld.com/article/2953978/use-windows-10s-individual-display-scaling-to-perfect-your-multi-monitor-setup.html
As mentioned before though, most people find long lines of text hard to read, so it might also be a case of not having your browser window at 100%.0 -

I can see it now ... you're using the new white/blue theme. The green theme is different.0 -
