Old Style Daily Friday 6th September

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I am up early so I thought I would start us all off :D. Thank goodness it's Friday although this week seems to have sped along. My grandson is coming over again before school for an hour or so and it has been really nice to have him here. His sister has enjoyed her first few days at comp although she has got lost a few times.

Steve is on a half day again but has to pop into Barnstaple to pay in some cheques seeing as our local branch closed down last year :mad:. He then has to collect Lee and his meds from Boots so he will be home later than usual. Phoebe is working all day and Lee wants to be distracted from wasting his day on the internet. He is very nervous about starting college next week so I will be keeping a close eye on him.

We had shopping delivered yesterday so the fridge and freezers are restocked. I think we will have faggoty pea stew for dinner tonight as the weather forecast isn't that brilliant and it will be nice to have something comforting and hot.

Thoughts as always are for Taff and her dad. Sending you a big hug xx

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Good morning and thank you for starting the thread Dumpling.

Still dark here and the weatherman says it is going to rain..

I'm a bit tired due to a very poor couple of nights sleep, may end up having a nap later. I've been quite busy tge past few days but there is always stuff to do. I must do a proper Friday Tidy, as others seem to have done a Thursday Untidy.

Thinking of those who are struggling, specially taff.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Nothing to report!

    Big hugs taff.
    Well done your DM Gers!
Dumpling I'm with you on the quick week, really don't know where it's gone.

I had to nip out of work yesterday to rescue DS2, he had hired a car from near the airport but they wouldn't take oversees credit cards. He was going to borrow my car but it's too small (he needed 5 seats and I only have 4) so I took him to another hire company back at the airport. All sorted and golf clubs handed over.

Some much needed housework was done last night, it'll get finished off tonight then I must do some shopping for the visitors over the weekend.

    Happy Friday! Take care. XX

    Morning everyone

dumpling - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now getting light but appears to be dry underfoot but air is becoming chillier at night. Cloudy and a bit of a grey cloud also.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was chicken portions with a seasoning with HM egg and veg fried rice. Tonight will be something quick and easy - chips and something for the menfolk, I'll probably have omelette and salad - I have quite a few eggs.

Yesterday I was quite productive, I got a 3 loads of washing done and line dried. Our bed stripped, linen washed, line dried, folded and put back into airing cupboard, bed re-made with bed linen from the airing cupboard. Dirty wash basket was empty last night but seems to have become half full overnight! So washing machine will go on shortly. I got a couple of admin jobs done that involved using pc or making telephone calls. I did a shove round with the hoover etc and cleaned bathrooms etc, so not a massive deep clean but enough - it looks ok. I also had to get a new tyre on my car - I'd noticed it looked like it was losing pressure early part of the week but didn't appear to have been going down, but Wednesday when I came out of work, it looked like it was getting flat, so called at a tyre garage near where I live and have always used them before, no-one even acknowledged I was there and several workers saw me walk into the waiting room, I waited for a while as there was a customer being dealt with but several other staff - I left without waiting too long in the end as no-one seemed bothered. I went first thing to another garage that we've used before and arrived just as they were opening, couldn't have been more helpful, they got car onto the ramp, got tyre off, checked, diagosed the problem, located new tyre as old one had started to perish and got new fitted and I was out of garage all sorted in around 40 minutes, so that will be my garage of choice from now on, I'd checked prices of tyres at other garages online before I went and price I paid was about the same everywhere, and the garage had it in stock - even better.

This morning I'll be heading to the SM to do the food shopping, then home to put away, do the ironing etc. I'm going to try to sort the cupboard that's annoying me today - we'll see. Will have some chill time as I'm working tomorrow then back Monday.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all

Bit chilly here this morning but meant to be an ok day, off to work for me but its Friyay which is brilliant, I so need a weekend.

Having my haircut tomorrow, I hate having my haircut and it must have been two years at lease since I went, but its so long and thick now it wont fit in the hair turban thing I bought for holiday, Im going to ask him to cut it and take some of the bulk out.

There is filled pasta for dinner for OH with a salad, I might have an omelette and salad, I have lost 2 lb this week, I have 10lb to go to my first target ( and will see how I feel then and if I want to loose any more) so I dont think its going to happen before my holiday, and I am bound to put some on while away, but will start again once we are back.

Need to do a wash tonight and have a tidy through.

    Taff thinking of you xx

    Have good days all xx

    Good morning everyone.

Despite having no plans yesterday it soon filled up. A soon-to-be ex-neighbour called in for a chat with DM. Another lovely man (that's three in one week, and one woman) who cheered up DM.

DM agreed that huge amount of unused clothing currently housed in two wardrobes in 'my' bedroom need cleared out. The main problem is a beautiful Persian lamb coat which my grandmother was given by her brother after WW2. I phoned three vintage clothing shops none of which take real fur anymore. I understand the problem but won't be chucking the coat out. It can stay!

I'm taking a couple of things back to Marks. I ordered the wrong knickers and the jacket is not suitable. I really like it, dark red corduroy but the buttons / buttonholes are far too stiff to close easily or quickly. Big metal ones with the holes ever so slightly too small for ease. Shame.

Hugs to Taff and all others who need one.

    Happy Friday to all.
  • Morning folks and thanks DUMPLING. I have been MIA for a little while for various reasons. I won't waffle on about them. Legs giving me more grief than normal and Dr changed me to a powerful painkiller which left me feeling as if I didn't know if I was on this earth or Fullers, the floor or the ceiling. But for better news the hospital has brought my appointment with the vascular surgeon forward 2 months and I see him tomorrow morning instead of the 4th November! Good or bad I want to know what's causing all the pain and hope something can be done about it.

On top of that my mind has been going back to this time last year when Bob was so ill. I try not to dwell on it but I can't help it. It has made me very emotional over silly things. I am needing a few jobs doing on the house before winter sets in and trying to find reliable work people is a nightmare. I had 3 promises of visits from different companies to look at the couple of windows that need replacing before I struck third time lucky yesterday and a nice young chap actually turned up and gave me a quote. A 4 to 6 week wait for the work as they are so busy but at least they will get done eventually.

I wasn't going to waffle on and sorry it seems I have done. Take care all and ((HUGS)) for all in need or want of them. Thinking of TAFF xx

Lovelyto have you posting again TA. Difficult times for you so here's a hug from me.
  • TA have a hug.

Its Friday again........ the weeks are whizzing by. Hope next week is better than this week, OH spent a night in hospital, but it seems to have had the desired effect, he has been put back on his old medication. He is in the garden picking beans for supper.

Dull morning looks a bit how I feel, have put the fire on in the sitting room to warm it up a bit, its freezing in here.

Various bits and bobs need doing not least I have to empty a plastic crate which needs to go up in the loft. Then its ready for when R decided to come and put the stuff up for me. I can then re arrange the sewing room.

Pleased to hear your Mum is doing a little better Gers.

Supper tonight is the usual fish and chips, will be having french beans with it. I bought some reduced strawberries yesterday, so that dessert with some cream.

TA, glad to hear you're being seen at the hospital, I hope they find a solution.

We had a lovely day yesterday. I'd bought some extra dining chairs on ebay and we went over to Constable country to collect them. Coming back we had a pub lunch ten went to Melford Hall and had a wnder around Lavenham. There are so many lovely early mediaeval houses around there, mostly preserved because the local industries failed and so people couldn't afford to update things.

We had taken Ziggy back home the night before and stayed over with Laura and Brian, we are missing her already.
