I have an account with 30 months worth of late payments on. I have requested the account to be defaulted 3-6 months after arrears. They have agreed to back date the default but advise they wouldn’t be able to remove the late payment markers? I wasn’t aware I could have late payment markers after a default? Basically it went into arrears a payday loan and i set up arrangements to pay it.
They did originally default me 3 years ago but when I complained recently about irresponsible lending they did not uphold complaint but removed default as good will gesture but instead replaced with all these late payments?
Broker has said default would have been better hence getting them to change it back but I don’t want to end up with a default plus all the existing late payments. No point in that.
Any advice on this would be great as I just thought a defaulted account would over ride the late payments.

The markers leading up to the default would be marked as late payment.
Subsequent markers would be defaulted
Plus you have already asked about this here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/76220460#Comment_76220460

Ok great... just to run past yourself as it just seems by putting a default on I’m damaging my file as in my head I see a default worse than late payments but I’m being told that a 3 year old default is better than lots of recent late payment.0

A default drops off your report after six years, so your three-year old default would only have sat there for another three years. Your late payment markers will be visible until six years after you have settled the debt. I think you shot yourself in the foot asking for the default to be removed.0
