We used to have homeserve cover, now we have it through our home insurance.

Used it 3 times in 2 years, all emergency call outs, resolved issue each time. £600, 400, 200... all big amounts, you’d have a new boiler every few years for that? I’d be trying to get it as part of my insurance rather than paying out these sums

I am in the same situation of renewal cover. Gone up by about £60 from last year. Thanks for the tip of cancelling and then opening new account. To be fair, the service from BG is excellent, and covers all appliances plus no call-out charges etc, But it actually does make sense putting the money into some sort of money: savings to keep for any emergencies for gas, and appliance repair, but must admit not that disciplined enough. So any other suppliers cheaper than BG out there? I will be calling them up!:money:

Just an update for those who are renewing or taking out a policy, there is decent quidco cashback available too. If it all runs smoothly I will only be paying £344 and might also get a gift card!
    I haven't got one!

My mom in laws contract was due for renewal on her 400 cover.  They wanted to increase the price by £60.00. She asked me to speak to them on my behalf yesterday and this is what happened.  I explained no service was carried out for boiler and they immediately agreed to refund £65.00 for that.  I then asked them to revisit the price for the product and they agreed not to increase the price and even made it cheaper by about £30.00 a year.  I then explained I had the same cover and my price was still lower than hers at the revised price. The advisor explained she was unable to go any lower and would need her manager to match the price we are paying.  The managed thought it was unjustified the difference in their pricing and agreed to reduce the price further by another £30.00.

The cost per month is now £36.00 and covers everything on the 400 cover. Also does not pay the £50.00 per call out.

Bearing in mind my experience I suggest anyone not happy with BG's pricing  phone them and you may be pleasantly surprised.

To help people save money.  Should be a website for tips like that.
