Which Washing Machine or Washer Dryer Brand to buy - Too many to choose from?!!

Be grateful for anyone (particularly appliance maintenance / repair personnel) who has recommendation(s) purchasing Washing Machine / Washer Dryer & / or advice pls?

BACKGROUND:
Had an excellent AEG L75480WD washer dryer for 6yrs & 1 month which decided to pack up suddenly (stopped mid wash cycle, found with no lights on, at all. Checked fuse, switch etc., sadly not the cause. Presuming PCB cap-put. Therefore, too costly to fix as only had 5yrs insurance cover)
Quite honestly, this machine was so good, I feel like I've lost a friend!

NEW PURCHASE HEADACHE:
No budget. Could now go for separates but I do love convenience of a washer-dryer.
Simply seeking similarly excellent machine, which hopefully will last same time or longer, if lucky.

Shopping for an adequate replacement for this worn out 'friend' is doing my head-in now!
Have spent hours reading reviews, researching different models, particularly the higher-end brands and their array of machines on offer....
During this, it has crossed my mind - "What with the staggeringly high price of some machines, that still only carry a 2yr manufacturers warranty, is it worth going the extra with expenditure? When even a company like Miele offer only this paltry length of warranty on several of their machines??!"
There are stupidly limitless amount of models produced under same manufacturer, some with very little difference in specification, if any, but which can differ significantly in price?!!

Any help would be appreciated. Even if you have good reason to advise staying clear of certain Brand(s)?

Does anyone reading this own and use an EBAC washing machine?
I'm interested because it's British Made...voting with my purse and protecting / increasing UK jobs appeals to me ;)

THANKS FOR READING THIS  Hope my 'pain' ends soon LOL
Far, far too much choice..........aaaghhhh

P.S. Board Monitors, if this in wrong forum, please move :)
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. :A

Avoid any of the Whirlpool brands for a start.

Separate devices are the usually the best choice. Single devices usually have a limited drying weight as compared to the actual washing weight. And if separate and one breaks down the other is still usable.

If you are happy with AEG buy another. John Lewis own brand are also AEG.

Otherwise its Siemens or Bosch (same company) for me. Never had a problem getting ten years plus out of any of those brands washers and dryers.

No idea, but agree with about to avoid Whirlpool & its sub-brand

And one thing I notice is the weight capacity for dryer is ranging between 4kg - 6kg. Personally would get a higher one.
  • I've had good service with Hotpoint washing machine - 10 years + reliable service.

I have today ordered a Hoover washer drier. I used the ao.com comparison tool - it lets you compare models easily to help narrow down the choice.

I spent £419 for the Hoover … I was surprised at the prices of some of the brands … the cheapest Samsung, for example, was over 25% more and had fewer features. Bosch was even more expensive.

    Hope this helps.

My Hotpoint lasted me about 19 years before the pump failed after a burning smell. The machine does go through the wash cycle but will not empty the water. I am hoping to repair the pump control circuitry to get a little more time out of it. If necessary I will replace every component on the circuit board which should not cost a lot, a lot less than the cost of a replacement circuit board which is separate from the main circuit board. Fingers crossed.

My Hotpoint was British built just before they started making them abroad and it shows, 19 years for a Washing Machine is pretty good going IMO. Therefore mine has lasted 3 times longer than the OP AEG.

I have read some bad reviews about Beko machines.

Separates are better IMO at least one will still work if the other fails. It just means additional space. IMO a dryer is just frivolous IMO and an energy waste. Personally I will not bother with them.
  • We are a family of 6 and our machines go 24/7 in our house. We literally have been through so many brands I lost count as we replaced our machines nearly every year.

Our recent purchse was an LG Direct Drive machine 12KG capacity. It has a 10 year warranty A+++ rated and probably the best machine we ever bought. Still going over 2 years now without issue

I does cost more than other brands, but well worth it

    Highly recommended

Most washes don't take the max load of the machine anyway so less of an issue for most people in day to day when they are not doing max load cotton eco washes taking 3hrs.

Seperates and stacking kit same footprint.
  • I'd say its personal preference as much as anything else but please note that todays AEG is a far different beast from older AEG's, the name having been bought by Electrolux in 2005.
Is it worth spending £1k + on a washing machine to last 10 years when the chances are that should you buy a £250 washer you might need two in that time?
Personally I prefer a separate washer & dryer as that suits my needs and also helps avoid possible problems if either develops a fault, it being easier to deal with one out of action than both IYSWIM.

I must admit that, come the time to replace mine, I will seriously consider an Ebac washer.
Reviews are good, the 7-year warranty is tempting and I've used their dehumidifiers for decades and found them to be extremely long-lasting and reliable.

Had similar experience a couple of weeks ago - trusted friend Miele packed up (after18 years), have ended up with Beko washer dryer for £350 instead of Miele at £1800. It seems to do the job.....
