    To be fair, I originally did an in-place update from W7 to W10 and ran like that for a year or two. I only did a fresh install when I replaced the HDD with an SSD. (And yes, it installed and activated just fine).

    You don't need to use it now but it is what MS want you to use. And the changes from 1809 are still in 1903, they're all cumulative.

    Of course you don't have to use it at all, you could just stick CCleaner or similar on your computer and it would do the same job.

    The 'problem' with not running a clean install, is that you don't get the Reserved Storage partition. Of course you can add it afterwards, by editing the Registry.
