Universal Credit- when to apply?

I have recently separated from my husband and once I am removed from the deeds to the house I will be looking at renting a property with our son. I am completely new to claiming any form of benefits so have a couple questions;

When do I need to start my application for universal credit? When I am accepted for a rental property and use the details of this property in my application? Do I need to give the estate agents/landlord information about my claim thereafter?

I honestly have no idea how this all works and will depend on universal credit for additional income on top of the 30 hours a week that I work as soon as I am no longer classed as a home owner.

    Use a benefits calculator ( entiltledto or turn2us websites ) to see if you would receive any UC payment, without any Housing rent included.

    If you will find a house to rent within the next 30 days, there is nothing stopping you claiming today and reporting a change of address with Housing rent on the claim. The first statement would then be based on your situation as reported and verified at the end of the first months assessment period.

    There is a Government website understanding Universal Credit,which contain all the details.

    Your post contains very little information. One question is whether your husband is buying you out of the house/mortgage and if so, how much in capital savings will you have ?

    Your landlord/letting agents don't need to know about any benefits claim. If you were not working or paying your rent, then they may ask you.
    The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
