  • gordon brown actually said "northern rock had a business model that didnt work in the times that we were facing. "

    oh really?
well, i guess after previous statements from them such as

"could use weapons of mass destruction within 45 minutes"

    and Reid's statement
British troops might leave Afghanistan in three years, and "without a shot being fired"

and Gordon Brown denying a referendum, despite stating in the Labour manifesto that the British people would vote on the proposed constitution/treaty in a Referendum.

    i guess i wasn't listening too closely smiley1cyx2.gif

but totally agree on the point concerning leaving money with Northern Rock

    Rock

quoted statement from gordon brown has been repeated extensively on news 24 hence the reason i picked up on the quote;)

when quoting people its important to quote them correctly as a matter of fact. ;)

i could issue tory quotes as well

"On March 27 1992, John Major said: "We have no plans and no need to extend the scope of VAT." Yet in the very first budget after the election, the Tories put VAT on fuel at eight per cent, with a provision for it to rise to 17.5 per cent in 1994." :( :(

I have my ISA in northern Rock. If I transfer it now, I will lose any interest earned so far. Is it wise to wait until Apr 2008?
    Thanks
I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T

If it's just your ISA then all your money up to £35K is covered by the FS Compensation Scheme so I'd wait for the interest, assuming this is a fixed rate term ISA with draconian penalties for early withdrawal.

If it's just an ordinary easy access ISA you would get your interest even if you transfered out of NR.
  • Thus causing another panic! Would you happen to have a link for that, bristolleedsfan?

the Guardian on Saturday was indicating that if NR went into administration it would take several months to get your money back, and you were unlikely to be paid interest over that period

if u read the linked post above before automatically firing back all the time  u would see that things have changed today in that both northern rock and the treasury have agreed on virgin being the preferred bidder. ;)

guardian was speculating " if NR went into administration" ;)

yesterday was "saturday" today is sunday and tomorrow never comes because there is always a tomorrow. :rotfl:

alistair darling had already announced that savers would get notice if the government were planning to withdraw its 100% guarantee.

At the moment, ALL your savings with NR are safe, if you transfer, the old £35000/90% comes back in play. Your Choice!

You mean by that, I assume, 100% up to £35,000? It used to be 100% up to £2000 then 90% up to £35,000 then NOTHING! Aren't they 'talking' about raising £35,000 to £50,000 ('same level as in the US' - 100,000USD)? But AFAIK they aren't going to have a '90%' band anymore - it will be '100%' or '0%' isn't that so?
