No deal Brexit or Corbyn government?

Daniel Finkelstein argues convincingly in The Times today that the only realistic options for the country are either a no-deal Brexit or a Corbyn government.

At the end of the day it’s a no-deal Brexit or Jeremy Corbyn (behind paywall)

In brief, the argument is that (notwithstanding delusions to the contrary involving Kenneth Clarke as Prime Minister or Caroline Lucas' government of white unity): Corbyn is the Leader of the Official Opposition, Corbyn will not support any alternative government to Boris' Tories that he doesn't lead, and without the Official Opposition there is no alternative government.

The only options are to either let Boris take us out of the EU without a deal, or bring down Boris' government and install Jeremy Corbyn in his place to stop no-deal Brexit. Alternatives such as Labour ousting Corbyn or the Lib Dems becoming the Official Opposition can be dismissed as not realistic.

Despite being a Remainer, Finkelstein prefers no deal Brexit to Corbyn, Seumas Milne, John McDonnell and the rest in power.

So, which would you prefer - Corbyn as Prime Minister or no-deal Brexit?

Not Corbyn, nor the Labour Party of today who elected him with leader and have to be assumed to espouse his notions.

Better a so-called "No Deal" which is reversible as negotiations start for the actual deal which is the future trading relationship with the EU. The "No Deal" refers just to the Withdrawal Deal, not the real thing.

    That's a tricky one!

The country voted to leave the EU and the Tories could have decided with a majority of 17 what that meant. They've chosen instead to spend the intervening 3 years navel gazing - 2 leadership campaigns (the second of which started after the last election), a GE where they squirted away a decent majority gifted to them by Cameron's UKIP stitch-up and numerous brexit secretaries (including the incompetent Davis and the bad faith Raab). Now we're about to embark on another GE.

I know the Tories like to turn themselves inside out over Europe and I didn't expect the referendum to be the end of that but I gaze on in wonder at the sheer idiocy of them once they get the Europe goggles on.

Do you know what? I'd take Corbyn AND no-deal over the Tories. They can't be trusted on European matters.

A Poll is pointless by the way. This forum is far more right-wing than the population at large so we already know what the poll result will be.

For once it is a sensibly interpretation of events which covers pretty much every angle.
Written by a remainer too; other remainers would do well to read this and above all to understand it.

Posts like the one directly above amply demonstrate the lack of understanding regarding the current situation and completely ignore the fact that Brexit not being a per party issue until recently is what has led to this fiasco in the first place.

That's where UKIP -> The Brexit Party (and now to some degree the LibDems) have had a huge advantage; where they stand on Brexit is abundantly obvious.
That's patently far easier for a voter than asking your (prospective) MP because there is not a definitive party stance.
It's also safer than trusting what your (prospective) MP tells you they want, since many have shown just how duplicitous they are.

Only in Britain is it deemed wrong to be Nationalistic. Guess it's the isolation of being an island race.

Or reading skills. Since when does more right wing than the population at large mean it's a right wing forum.

We could have another poll about how many people on here have voted UKIP in the past and compare that with election results. Although I'm sure by now the selective amnesia will have kicked in.
  • Corbyn government asap please, drain the swamp.

This is exactly the tactic that Johnson is hoping to use. No Deal or Corbyn. I would take Corbyn any day, but that's not the real choice.
