Barclays and third party access

I have just spent over an hour on the phone to Barclays again trying to sort out a problem with my third party access. Briefly my OH and I have a joint account with Barclays which used to be a Woolwich account (come back Woolwich all is forgiven!) and I also have third party access via power of attorney on my fathers Barclays account.
All I am trying to do is get access to my fathers account using the new pinsentry system. I have been told in writing that to gain access I have to log into my joint acocunt and that account will be linked to my fathers account, but that seems wrong as surely that breaches data protection as my OH does not have third party access to my fathers account. On the telephone they agree that sounds wrong and say that I should have a new card on my fathers account and log in details, but when they try to sort that out it defaults back to access via my joint account. They keep saying I should have a different connect card but the system will not allow them to issue one.
They've just reissued a pin number for me on my joint account connect card and have said wait a week until that arrives and then retry logging in to my dad's account and see if it works using my card, they don't think it will, but it is worth a try!! Meanwhile I need to ask my OH to log in to the joint account and see if he gets my dad's details as well, although if that is the case they believe that to be acceptable within the data protection rules.
Has anyone else got this set up with barclays who can tell me how it actually works with them?

Presumably you and the OH each have your own logon, so the system should know which of you is logging on. I don't bank with Barclays, but when my OH logs in to our joint Nationwide account she sees her personal account and savings as well, but when I log on I only see the joint account. Barclays wording is probably slightly wrong, the POA account won't be linked to the joint account but will be linked to your logon.0

Hi Soolin
We have a joint account with Barclays, and when I look at my internet banking I cannot see my OH's ISA, so what they are saying could well work.
I am sure PBA is correct and it knows who is logging in, and show the correct info for that person.
