Royal Mail is usually good- but like all couriers and carriers they require a minimum standard of packing. I sell glass and china and always pack assuming it is going to be dropped onto a concrete floor , if I can't do that then I haven't packed it well enough. It really does need to be packed to withstand throwing around and dropping several times.

If you are getting a lot of damages then you might want to rethink your packaging.

Having said that though I did once have a teapot broken (remember the old days when novelty teapots actually sold!), that turned up with tyre marks and apparently had been run over by a fork lift truck- the courier did refund that though as it was pretty obvious that packaging wouldn't have helped.

If you ensure you use a double walled box you are half way there. The key is to ensure nothing inside is moving. Crumpled brown paper as well as bubble wrap is good i find

I once ordered a very fragile glass vase from Amazon. It was sent in an Amazon box with some brown paper in it. No bubble wrap or packaging peanuts. Just some brown paper. Arrived in perfect condition. Not a single chip or crack. Either Amazon couriers carry every parcel on a pillow or their boxes and brown paper have magical powers.
