Smelly Toilet Area

changed all the shower traps in two of my showers as there was plenty of bad smell coming out. Turns out downstairs shower was not connected to any pipe so all would go in the foundation of the house. Upstairs the trap did not have a U but another type of trap to keep the odor out, it was badly designed so replaced that.
No more smells in either shower - builder who did this is a genius. We were both in absolute disbelief as to how previous owner's builders did not connect the downstairs shower.....
In other words: can be anything. Good luck. I put the tiles back together, that wasn't a fun job

Well, it's quite perfumed in that area now.
Gave the room a good air out, which seemed to have done good.

The sink runs outside as there's a drain cover there. Opened it and watched water running. It's pretty clean and doesn't look like there's any blockages.

Will keep an eye and update at the next chapter.

check the carpets and floorboards for a leak

Have you run some cleaner into the actual overflow outlets on the bath & the sink ??
Sometimes these can smell.

The final update then.

After a week or two of airing and perfuming, it seems the smell has gone.
I guess it would have come from the traps and then just hung out around the area.

I'll still keep an eye on it and report back if anything else happens.
