Nationwide PPI Rejected

Options
Hi
I recently made a claim for Ppi on my mortgage in the 1990’s. Although they agreed we had ppi on our mortgage and had been miss sold, we did not know about, they said we did not pay extra for it so no claim for refund can be made. Has anyone else had this response as I find it strange that they would have added it without telling us and then not charging us for it. They did charge an extra 1% on our mortgage for first year but don’t know if this was Ppi.

  • Sounds like you had PPI for a period and didn't pay for it. Difficult to see how it was mis-sold to you in those circumstances. However, even if it was, a refund of what you paid still equals zero.

Mortgage PPI was not just added without the knowledge and permission of the customer I'm afraid. It would have appeared very clearly on the documentation you signed.

If the PPI did not continue after the free period, that would indicate that you declined it. Perhaps you've simply forgotten this decades later?

Regardless, you won't ever receive a refund of monies you never paid in the first place.

The "extra" 1% is not PPI. How could it be?

Nationwide offered the first 12 months free of charge. At the end of the 12 month period, they gave you the choice to continue but paying after that point or to cancel. if you cancelled, you never paid a penny.

    Loads of people.

They auto-uphold them as it avoids the FOS fee if you were daft enough to refer it to the FOS (it would be classed as vexatious.

They didnt add it without telling you.

No it's not PPI. If you had PPI, it would have had its own direct debit standalone from the mortgage.
