I have a Toshiba hard drive recorder which I use to record programmes off the TV from freeview.
Just recently, the recorder EPG programme guide is only showing the guide for programmes currently on air for that hour, not those which are coming up so I can't use the guide to set it to record in the future, which is a pain.
The TV freeview guide is showing up as it should be.
I've tried retuning the recorder but it has not made any difference.
I can set record using the date and time, and that works, but if something is delayed obviously I then only get part of the programme.
Any suggestions what the problem might be and whether it can be resolved?

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

  • Try leaving it on and tuned to a BBC channel for an hour or two.
  • I used to use a Humax PVR. I believe the "now and next" schedule is transmitted much more frequently than the full timetable, so tends to be available quickly. It could take a very long time for the full listing to appear.

Perhaps check for firmware updates ? Humax made a change so that it stored the EPG during shutdown, so it was available more quickly next time.

It's not internet connected so I'm not sure how I would check for firmware updates.

No idea, but can't see anything on the settings that would allow for the possibility. It's not a new machine.

Switch it off at the plug for a few minutes. The programme guide seems to update quicker on BBC channels.

Humax used to do their firmware updates over the air (ie via freeview). Though if it's a very old device, Toshiba may well have stopped using bandwidth for your model, if they ever did.

Humax also allowed updates to be pushed from a pc via a serial port, IIRC.
  • You may want to try a "Factory Reset to Original Settings" - look in your manual for how to to this. Then retune the stations and tune into BBC News channel and leave it for a while. That should repopulate the full EPG. As far as I know (but check with manual), a factory reset will NOT delete previous recordings.
