Iphone charging issue

Am having a nightmare lately with electronic gadgets and tonights one is an old iphone that i'm using while my current one is being repaired.
The battery isnt charging. I have tried many charging cables and the battery isnt going green. I am currently trying to charge it on a laptop and still nothing. The cable is in the charging port and the laptop makes the noise to say its charging. I even opens iTunes and tells me theres a phone connected but still no charging. Can anyone suggest anything that I can do. Its an old 5s by the way.

  • battery is probably completely shot (they don't last forever).
either use it plugged into the mains (not very practicle for a 'mobile' phone) or get the battery replaced - not cheap via Apple.

Cost me £20 for a new battery including fitting at our local tech guy in our local shopping centre, not a genuine apple battery but works ok.:rotfl:

If my old iphone was left to completely drain it took an absolute age (hours!) to charge it to the point where the iphone was able to be powered on. It then completed the rest of the charging process up to 100% fairly quickly.

If I hadn’t been aware of this peculiarity I would have assumed that the battery was completely goosed.

Have you tried charging through a wall socket rather than through your computer/laptop?

I assume your computer supports mobile phone charging? Some USB ports don't deliver enough power to charge a phone, which is what I'm wondering may/may not be the case here.

And I also assume you've checked for any fluff in the Lightning port?

Yep have tried various charging cables in all sorts of appliances and wall sockets and nothing. On the way home from work tonight I tried the car one again and it gave it a burst up to 2% and then died. I think its a case of a new battery but thinking about it again today the charging port in my lorry (been using it daily since May) has gone through 2 phones (main ones motherboard has gone and this one) and a bluetooth speaker.
