I have BT Fibre with Cable. - Home Hub 6
If I connect the hub to the test socket on the Master Socket I get speeds of around 8.5MBS the hub actually says it is receiving 10MBS.
If I replace the front plate and plug in again the speeds reduce to around 6.5MBS.
When I move the Hub to where I use it in my study on an extension speed is only 4.5 - 5MBS.
I have to use it there as the signal does travel from the Kitchen (where the Master Socket) is to the Study.
I have an extension in a Mobile Home next to my house connected by BT type line wire - there the speed is about 6MBS.
Why is this?
How do I correct it so that I am not always in the slow lane?

If you haven't already, replace your faceplate with one of these (you may find cheaper) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-OpenReach-BT-Master-Socket-NTE5C-VDSL-MK4-New-2019-ADSL-FacePlate/183902796965?hash=item2ad175fca5:g:ZnIAAOSwX5pcuj~N
then if its still notably slower look into replacing your extension wiring.0 -

You're paying for fibre and getting 8.5Mbps? Ouch. (you do mean Mbps I'm guessing and not MBPS as you wrote?)
Are you testing with a computer/laptop plugged into the router? If you're not already use https://www.speedtest.net0 -

That's poor, I get 20-30 Mb/s on BT Fibre and I live in the sticks, 3 miles from the exchange. Have you asked BT about it?Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080

It's the distance from the Cabinet that dictates the speed for a FTTC connection. if you can get 30 Mbps then you will be around 0.6 miles (line length) from the Cabinet.0 -

aardvaak , stick your landline number in here http://dslchecker.bt.com/
It'll tell you whether 10Mbps is correct or not at the master socket. If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
