Do I need to contact supplier when switching?
The EON Go Online 1 Year v16 contract that I'm on is coming to an end tomorrow and I have switched to British Gas (Energy Plus Protection Green Sep 2020v2) today and in CEC, it says "we've sent your request to switch to the provider you picked (we send it within 24-48 hours)" and in the email from EON few days ago, it says "If we don't hear from you before 3 September 2019, we'll switch you to our standard variable price tariff".
So I'm wondering will I be put on the cheaper price tariff whilst the switch goes through and no exit fees?

You'll go onto EON standard variable tariff for the 2-3 weeks it takes to switch over. If you had switched early enough ( but still within the 49 day window ) you might have gone straight from your current EON tariff onto your new British Gas tariff.0

Well I'm confused as to how you are possibly confused as to what will happen
I'm sure the Eon email would have also told you about early exits fees, or rather how they would no longer would apply to you on your existing tariff if you switch, even if there were any originally.
A suupliers standard variable tariff does not have any exit fees.0 -

Before 3 September which means I can still call EON today and let them know that I have submitted a switch so they can put me on a cheaper price tariff whist the switch goes through?
They won't put you on a cheaper tariff, but may agree to keep you on the same tariff until the switch occurs.
But I think you will find they may need more evidence than you simplying telling them, otherwsie we'd all be calling our suppliers on the last day of our fixed deal to get them effectively extended.
Have you called EON to tell them? And if so what did they tell you?
They will allow you to transfer to another of their tariffs. But most of their cheaper tariffs will have early exit fees that will apply if you then switch away before the switching window opens 49 days prior to their expiry.0 -
You've left it very late. For future reference you can move supplier any time from 49 days before the contract finishes and not have to pay any exit fee. If you leave it a bit later and the transfer takes you over the end of the contract, they have to keep you on the same tariff until you switch. But you need to have initiated the move before the contract ends so it seems you are too late this time and will have to pay the standard rate while the transfer happens.0

Hello Casterina and sorry to lose you.
As you're on a Fixed Tariff and provided the new supplier contacts us in time, you'll be covered by the Price Protection window. This window is open 49 calendar days before the contract end date until 20 working days after. If the new company applies for your account during this time we'll automatically protect your prices and keep you on the lower rates until the switch completes.
Exit fees also don't apply when switching during the Price Protection window.
Hope this explains Casterina. Let me know if you need any more details as happy to help.
