in Credit cards
Hi, I have finally got round to checking my (free) credit report with Experian. Apart from not getting the correct postcode (last two letters are wrong) for one of my previous addresses it is really good.
I have a question on some of it though.
I can see a lot of accounts saying settled, (i.e. old mobile phone contracts and credit cards I closed down previously). Should these still be there, or should they have been removed from my record completely?
Many thanks

The closed accounts will be removed 6 years after the date they were settled.
This provides evidence of your payment history to lenders.
If you history is good then this is a good thing.
If everything dissapered straight away then people with bad histories could just close the account to get rid of the evidence.0 -
Also just seen a CIFAS entry stating that some one else has done a search on one of my previous addresses, (not when I lived there).
It states
"CIFAS aims to detect and prevent fraud and so protect innocent people whose names, addresses or other details are used fraudulently by others in order to get credit. Organisations who are members of CIFAS examine credit applications very carefully and may contact you to make sure you have applied for the credit. They will not automatically refuse applications from people with warnings on their report. For further information about these details, you may wish to contact the company at the address listed below. Please click here and read the CIFAS leaflet
Entry Number: F1
Name used: MRx xxxxxxxxxxx
Date of birth used: xx Month xxxx
Address used: xxxx
xxxx
xxxx
Date recorded: 30/05/2007 Members name: A WELL KNOWN BANK
Member's Address: THE BANKS ADDRESS
Case reference: xxxxx Product type: Personal Current Account – with or without Overdraft/Debit Card Type of case: Application Fraud (Facility Refused) Use of a name reasonably believed to be genuine, but with one or more material falsehoods in personal details or other relevant information – the facility was refused. Reason for entry: Refer to CIFAS member
Does anyone have any idea what this is about?
Thanks again0 -
I have a cifas entry on my report too, for the same reason as above. At one point I had two. What it means is that when you apply for credit, the application is likely to be looked at manually by a person and not a computer, so a downside is that you may not get instant decisions. Google "cifas" to find their website for further information.
A creditor cannot automatically turn you down if you have a cifas entry.0
