Yes, maybe prevention of terrorism is the wrong example. But there are a few very very high profile crimes that get the lions share of resources, but actually affect only a miniscule number of people.
Now I understand that if you are one of those people, or their families you would want the crime investigated properly, but so do the millions of people who are mugged, have their bag snatched, get burgled, have their cars stolen, suffer vandalism etc.
All down to priorities. Apparently the Public want millions spent chasing a few criminals, some of whom committed their crimes 30 or 40 years ago, and the money/resources have to come from somewhere.
Me, I want a couple of Police walking their beat past my house, who know me, and I know them, and if they see someone they don't know on my property, or anything suspicious, they investigate.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Just an update: the policewoman at local cop shop asked 'can I be honest with you?' Then went on to say that what they could do is to review CCTV footage (turns out this incident was also covered by CCTV) but that they simply do not have the resources and are focusing their efforts on tackling violent crime.
I think the honesty was appreciated.0 -

People want serious crimes against people to be treated more seriously than crimes against property. Especially ones that are covered by insurance.Me, I want a couple of Police walking their beat past my house, who know me, and I know them, and if they see someone they don't know on my property, or anything suspicious, they investigate.
Pay more taxes.0 -
My main question is whether the police really are as powerless as they say ... I think she should press hard for some investigation but wondering what others think.
It's not a matter of powerless, the police are under resourced. They've not been quiet about this.
The only place that money for police comes from is us. If you want more police, you need to pay more taxes. Stop buying things from tax-avoiding companies like Amazon and stop voting for politicians that reduce the taxation of rich people.0 -
Pay more taxes.
Happy to if it makes that happen.
It could come from the money I wouldn't be spending on insurance to cover all the theft and vandalism claimsI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

For goodness sake! I appreciate that they're under resourced. I understand why they are powerless in some situations but didn't want to assume anything about this particular situation in case there was more my friend could do / ask for. I'm not making judgements, just wanted some constructive ideas / thoughts, which some have given.0 -

And it would be the same if they were chasing robbers, burglars and car thieves. Millions spent chasing a few criminals.0
