Ifa

Hi

I am trying to find an IFA to advise my mother. She is retired and needs advice about re-investing about £600k. (She is currently invested with HL's money advice service and is not happy with this). She lives in north Surrey. Is any one able to recommend a good adviser or advise what qualifications etc we should look for when searching for an adviser?
Thank you

Normally there are no personal recommendations made on the forum . In any case the chance somebody will know a particular IFA in a specific region is unlikely.
However the usual advice is use a local IFA or small local firm of IFA's relying on word of mouth recommendations if possible.
Avoid FA's ( financial advisors tied to banks/one product range ) and avoid large 'wealth management companies '
Normally you get a free initial interview to see how you all get along as it needs to be a good personal/professional relationship for it to work well. So you can try out more than one before deciding.
The most popular charging structure is an ongoing % fee of the funds . As your Mother's fund is quite large then 0.5% should be a target . Alternatively you can pay for one off advice .
