Okay, I have a loan for approx £7000 plus interest. I have been REALLY stupid and haven't paid a penny on it for well over a year:eek: I've not done this purposly, I've just got no money to pay. I have no idea of my reference number and I've moved around so much I don't even know what address they have me under.

I don't know what to do... I mean what will happen when they catch up with me? I don't want to sound dumb but will it be as bad as been sent to prison? I have a baby girl and I'm so worried. I don't have a single penny spare, I don't have a mortgage or anything thats worth anything. I'm not married but live with my partner. I dont want to involve my partner in any of this, I got the loan before I met him.

I know I shouldn't have left it this long but it's all just so scary, and the longer I leave it the more scared I am to do anything.

Any help would be appriciate.

Thanks

Laura

  • you won't go to prison unless it's an inland revenue or council tax debt. The best thing to do is to get copies of your credit files and see what they have on there and the contact the company direct explaining the situation..

How would I go about getting copies of my credit files? I've been on experian but theres no record of my loan on there.

I think I need to stop been so scared and just phone the loan company... I just don't know what to expect... will they involve my other half in in all because I live with him? we have a bit of his wages left each month but only just enough to live off

They are not able to involve your partner if you don't want them to but it might help you to tell him what's going on.
It might be an idea to get a SOA sorted so we can all have a look and give you some ideas about how to cut your costs.
Good luck with this, you can do it!

  • Approx Outgoings

    Rent - £350
    Council Tax £102
    Home Ins £15
    Buses - £40
    Sky £25 (contract)
    Water £20
    Electric £60
    Tv £15
    BT - £15
    Mobiles - £20
    Baby Milk/ Nappies etc - £50
    Food - £200
Child maintenance to DFs other daughter - £125
    DFs loan - £175
    Credit card - £20
Catalogues - £20 (approx £150 on these over all)

    in total 1252

    Incomings

    Child Benefit - £72
    DF Wage - £980
    Tax Credits - £298

    Total 1350

so at the moment we have about £98 left from DFs incomings... but when you take into account Christmas and my daughter is still at the stage where she needs new clothes every 3 months were not really left with much.

In April our tax Credits will go down to approx £184 so we will be paying more out than we actually have.

None of this includes the £150 I am meant to pay out for my loan

Hi and welcome. Not got any specific advice at the mo but just wanted to mention freecycle. On our local frecycle there are always offers of childrens clothes(and often toys as well) might be worth a try. Good luck.

  • Thanks for the suggestion anniestar.

I'm a member of freecycle but more often than not I cant pick up the items because I dont drive. I do try to get what I can off there though.

I'm not sure what options I've got really as I just don't have any money to give towards my loan, so I can't even write to then explaining I can only pay so much a month... feel like I am at a dead end

  • You need to check out your file on equifax as well as experian as some companies register the account on one but not the other.

How old is the loan, how much/how many payments did you have left to pay on it?
