Do I still need my boiler? I have electric underfloor heating + showers!
I recently moved into an oldish house with a very old boiler! I am in the middle of converting it into 2 separate flats, one for me, and one for my parents.
We have already done a couple of the floors (put electric underfloor heating in - we just need to get them connected by an electrician) and we have decided to do them throughout the house, because the radiators we have are old and ugly and what with us having to redo all the floors, it seems like a sensible option.
Where I am struggling is - do I still need my big combi boiler, or can I replace it with either a much smaller electric only boiler, or a couple of those small water heaters? I don't cook with gas, so we don't really need gas anymore, we wont have any radiators, and we are getting rid of the bath and converting the bathroom to a really nice wet room. I want to try and be economical, but I also don't want to leave myself struggling for hot water if I need it!
I also dont want to go through the big expense of getting a new boiler fitted (we are going to be relocating it, if we need to get a new one) if alternatives will work!

A kWhr of gas costs maybe 3-4p, a kWhr of electricity costs maybe 14-19p. If you're being economical why are you switching to electric heating?0

Economical with which options are best for me, without using gas. So we are looking for the simplest or cheapest option, and for advice on what might work. Without using gas.0

Turn the boiler off and see how you get on.
If, after a few weeks, you find it doesn't have any adverse affect on how you live, then you can get rid of it

I don't think ripping out a gas fired heating system to replace with electric, could ever be considered "economical".
However, if that is your wish, I would suggest a pre insulated hot water cylinder with an electric immersion heater may be your answer.0 -
Underfloor heating will be costly to run. You could look at a gas water heater, works the same way as boiler but without the heating connected. Love mine! So much cheaper to run the elec water heater!0
