O/S Daily Monday 2 September 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light - cloudy and chilly but dry underfoot. I have a basket of washing ready to peg out - hopefully it will line dry, I'll peg it out shortly.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and ok.
Lunch yesterday was lovely roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, HG green beans, swede, carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy. There's some LO's that are safely tucked away in the fridge, they will be the basis of tomorrow night's dinner - there's several slices of pork, so will make a pot of gravy and put that in the oven for a while until it's nice and tender, I'll re-heat the veg and do any extra that's needed but importantly nothing is going to get wasted. Dinner tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. My fish will be baked and I'll have veg with mine.
Back to work today, so we'll see how it goes - it'll be either busy and manic or dead - school's here starting going back tomorrow - we'll see.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc.
Had a lovely day yesterday with DD and a friend, nice enough lunch but nothing special. The football was on so a bit limited for choice.
There is a little more deck but nowhere near finished, beginning to get a bit annoyed now as we've had plenty of decent weather, seems the chap is a bit lazy!
Back to rain again this morning, the washing is up to date so don't need to worry about that. I did the ironing yesterday, will need to do some dusting soon but will leave it to nearer the weekend when I have visitors!
Hope all's well in your world.
Happy Monday, take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Nice bright day here but with a chill in the air I have a blanket over me this morning.
The kids go back to school tomorrow so the madness of the summer holidays should stop now and things should return to normal somewhat at work.
We had a lovely walk yesterday we couldn't go to the beach as the tide was in so we went to the 'steps' which we have done before the walk is about three miles but then you go up all these steps cut into the valley side, equivalent to 18 flights of stairs I did it yesterday with only stopping once to catch my breath I sure it must be good for toning up !!
Onto today I have some chicken breast for dinner I will do OH some chips with his and I shall have a load of veg with mine.
We washed the kitchen windows yesterday inside and out and what a difference it makes, I hadn't realised they were getting so grubby, we will have to work around the house doing all the others.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
I had a shocking night's sleep so feel utterly ready for the knacker's yard todayMy legs are giving me lots and lots of pain but there is no infection thank goodness. My nurse only comes once a week now so I will have to put up with it till Thursday. It's not any fun.
The sun is trying to break through some big black clouds but I don't know what the weather is forecast for today. It wouldn't surprise me if it rained, it feels kind of damp in the air. Jemima and the grandchildren are coming to see me today which is lovely. My grand daughter starts up at the comp tomorrow and she is very nervous. I am sure she will be fine though, they do look after the new kids very well and have a buddy system set up so they have someone to show them where to go.
I will be looking after my grandson all week. Tomorrow he is here for the day and then the rest of the week he will be coming here for an hour before school starts. He will be walking to school on his own from now on as well and he is a bit of a dreamer so I hope he remembers to look where he is going.
I forgot to ask someone to get the meat out for today so I don't know what we are going to have for dinner tonight. It's all in the freezer in the shed outside and I can't go out there and get it. Phoebe and Steve are in work and Lilly didn't come home again last night. Lee is fast asleep but I will have to get him up in a little while to help me sort it.
Right, the kettle is calling me so I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Good morning everyone.
Yesterday my lovely gardener cut the grass in my back garden and did some weeding, then he sent me some photos of it. Looks really lovely so made me even more sad. The Inula Hookeri I planted last year are in full bloom and beginning to colonise the space beautifully. I'm trying to work out an overnight stay.
After all my prep yesterday DM's visitor only wanted a glass of tap water. I drove her home as she's going for a hip replacement in two weeks time so was struggling to walk. Later DM decided to prepare her own evening meal leaving the dishes for me to do. :rotfl:
Today I'm going to find a domiciliary optician for DM and ring round local care homes for prices of short term respite care. There's also a bit of work to do for my part time job. I'll also make time for a walk though it'll be more of a hobble!
My thoughts are with all here who are having difficulties. Happy Monday to everyone.0 -
Good morning, it's fine here at the mo, rain forecast though.
Redruby you are sounding frighteningly fit!! All those steps !
Camelot, hope your deck workman brisks himself up a bit.
Sorry you feel rough Dumpling, it's murder when you've had a bad night.
We went to Alnw*ck Gardens yesterday, had a lovely day. It stayed dry as well. Instead of our usual picnic we lunched in a caf! in the town, it was ok, filled a gap. Got home about 5pm and had our usual quiet evening.
This morning we have a man coming to (hopefully) sort our gas fire out. He'll be able to tell us if this one has had its day ,if so we'll buy another. I'm saying that, I don't know how much it would be. It's a living flame one , so we would just have to get the insert I'm assuming. We'll see anyway.
I won't go to this months book group, as I want to talk to the gas fire man.
We're a bit fed up with our usual gas service man - if he didn't want/didn't have time for the job, I wish he'd just said, saved this delay.
Hope everyone has a good day. Thinking of Taff and her Dad and others struggling with health and life problems
Take care folks xx0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Moving day today, four locks and three bridges, we will stop on the water point to fill the tank and empty the black water. Hopefully I'll be able to run the washing machine too. I just hope there is a nice mooring space free.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning chums,
It feels like it's been ages since I was on here. What with the BH and a busy work week, so I hope I've not missed too much.
Nothing dramatic happening at my end. I go on holiday on Sunday, so I'm now counting the days. No gym this morning as I went twice yesterday and when I woke this morning, I was knackered and legs were killing me. I'll go to tonight for yoga though.
Hope everyone is well!0 -
Morning everyone
It was my birthday yesterday so DD treated me to a lovely Sunday lunch out....I had a lovely roast chicken dinner with a huge Yorkshire pudding.
I really enjoyed the last episode of Handmaid's Tale last night....has anyone else been watching?
This morning I'm going to make a big pan of Bolognese sauce...I'll have some for tea and the rest will go in the freezer. I'll see if DD wants to come up for tea too. Also got my banking to do...unfortunately when I go back to work on Wednesday I'm on less hours, which isn't good for my finances.
This afternoon I'm going down to a friends house for a cuppa and a natter, I'm taking little grand daughter with me so my friend can spend a bit time with her. Well mainly to show off her cuteness! She may stay tonight, I'm not sure yet. She'll be 8 months tomorrow!
Hope everyone has a good day0 -
Morning all,
Had a good weekend, the day festival was good but it was very windy and we left before it went dark which was a shame but we were so cold by the time we left.We had to spent time in the beer tent to warm up
DGD back from her hols yesterday so we saw her briefly, and she left 4 uniforms for me to take the hem up.Can't do it today as I'm minding DGS and we're off on the bus to town to go to the museum, and a play centre,he's back at school tomorrow but DGD is back Wed so I've time.
Right better get ready to catch the bus in 3/4 hr. Have a good day all x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Bright sun, but quite a breeze, the whites are in the washer, should get them dry, fingers crossed.
Chicken yesterday was a bit 'dry' for some reason, have to strip the rest of the breast meat, legs and wings, will have chicken salad for supper tonight.0
