Tax credits reduction help please
Comments

Tax credits are generally based on previous year earnings. I would therefore expect this:
Your 18/19 tax credits are based on your 17/18 earnings.
Your 19/20 tax credits are based on your18/19 earnings.
As your 18/19 earnings are higher than your 17/18 earnings your 19/20 tax credits will be lower than your 18/19 tax credits. However this would not explain a change of £150/week.
Has anything else changed?Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
Thanks. I thought they would be lower slightly due to the roughly £700 increase of earnings in 18/19 but I wasn't sure if that would be covered by the disregard.
I spent an hour on the phone today to a really nice advisor who did some investigating and he couldn't work out why they have tapered my award by so much. He thinks it could be a change of circumstances issue but nothing has changed in my circumstances for years. I had a baby 2 years ago which I informed them of straight away and they knew about my smp due to the deductions I had to make from my income. He has passed it to the back office and I am awaiting a response within 7 days.
So new question... If there has been an error on tc part and I've done everything by the book can I fight this? I dont know how I'm going to pay for my childrens nursery and school club fees from here on.0 -
If they identify an error they’ll correct it.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0
