Should I sell the things I love?

Hi djheath.
Why not just 'cancel' Christmas? Tell everyone that you are skint this year and can't afford it. I'm sure they'll understand and if they don't. Tough. This way you can scrimp to get through the period and moan along with everyone else when the bills arrive in January, but without the added pressure of Christmas debt.
I'm doing that and only getting birthday presents for the nieces and nephews for the remainder of this year and next. Having said that, I am treating myself to an away Christmas party, but that's (partially) budgeted forand I know I can scrimp through January/February as I'm on my own.

Have one last trash, save the sticks and sell the kit.0

sell the car. put your drum kit in your mum's garage and play it there! (Your mum may not thank me for this....:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Add to my last comment - I wouldn't sell it just to get over Xmas:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

I have been thinking about it.
I have an extensive autograph collection that I have built up over 25 years. In my old house I had a large part of my collection displayed in frames all over the walls but now I am in this tiny flat there is nowhere to put them and at the moment they are all packed in boxes and suitcases scattered about all the rooms. If I sold a lot of them it would cut down on the clutter and make me a tidy sum for our holiday/Christmas.
Everyone keeps telling me I shouldn't sell them though so I really don't know what to do...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I wouldn't sell something I love to get over a temporary financial blip, but I would if I was in serious debt as I know I couldn't face the stress. To be honest I don't have that many things I love that much. I was burgled when I was in my late teens and all the family jewellery and heirlooms were taken. I also live in a teeny-tiny rented flat so I don't like owning "stuff" 'cause of the storage problems and the cost of moving it all if I have to move flats. I have got rid of so much stuff over the years and it definitely makes me feel less bogged- down. I rather like the idea of travelling light.
If it was something to do with a hobby that I would take up later then it would be silly to get rid of it, but I suppose you have to ask yourself whether you really will! Note to neighbour who has had three rusting cars in the garden for years which he is claiming he will restore 'one day'...0 -
Personally i would sell the drum kit at least as there is always the temptation to take out credit to get over periods like Xmas and this would probably be much more expensive over time. Just my view.0

I have a music collected i'm proud of. I collected every single release from one of my fav bands, even the super rare stuff. It sits there collecting dust now.
I'm torn between selling it (probably about £950) to pay towards the debts I have, which ironically probably started by collecting the CDs and records in the first place!!
hmmmm... =/0 -
Take a photo, sell it and move on, otherwise when you can afford a house with a garage there will be no room for the car
Oh, if only my son had your attitude. He suffers from depression but even taking this into account it doesn't explain the way he never gets rids of things. I can understand that he will never sell his Fender guitar but the old Audi Quattro that is now covered in green on his drive could surely go. He would say he doesn't have any money to get it ready for sale but he has had the money and still did nothing. He recently mentioned that he might have to sell some of his Inuit art - he is a collector of glass but came across these pieces in antique fairs and knew what they were. Still, can't change people!!0 -
If I owned a Classic VW Beetle they'd be no way I'd sell it!
Can't you put your drum kit to good use by starting up a band, taking your kit with you for the gigs and then use any money you might get to go towards Xmas and restoration of your car?
