Hi, Movingforwards, thanks for the tip on charity shops. At the moment they have plenty of games, including several that belonged to their mum over 30 years ago.

Redo, you freezer sounds like mine. Yesterday I got out some steak and, what turned out to be liver, for steak and kidney pie! Have done an inventory of the freezers. There is enough meat and fish for a couple of months and veg/fruit for several weeks. Must eat our way through this so I can defrost them. Mutton chops, home reared, tonight.

Tomorrow is the big Birthday party. Cake made and decorated, party bags filled, just need good weather now, so we can hold it outside. Fingers crossed for us please.

The minibus is still in the garage, hopefully back next week. But I've been saying that for 8 weeks now. OH has bought another, the one being fixed will be sold when we get it back. The "new" one does not drive! OH says he can fix it. I'm sure he will. Just hope one of them is drive-able soon.

  • I'm very guilty of not labelling things, but luckily tonights dinner turned out to be lentil dhal and rice so that worked ok with some pitta breads to pad it out for the boys.

Home reared mutton sounds superb. When we retire I want a wood with a stream so I can have happy pigs. I don't even like pork much, just like the idea of happy pigs.

A rural dream is one we are cherishing - but even just reading up on it I am starting to appreciate how much work it could be. Good luck on your journey.

Hi Redo, the reason we have mutton, is that one of our ewes had mastitis three years running. Although she was a good mum, having to hand rear her lambs was not economical. It would cost us in feed to keep her as a "pet" so the only option for us was to put her in the freezer. The reality of the good life.

Savingholmes, if you cherish the rural dream, go for it. We didn't move here until we were both into our fifties. We thought of it as semi-retirement. Neither of us has ever worked so hard as we do here! But both love it and would not change a day of it.

We have spent less than £40 so far this month on groceries etc. Hope to spend even less next week as won't need potatoes, onions, carrots.

The birthday party for DGS1 went well, although I managed to burn the table top with the popcorn pan! Oh well, I'll sand it down and re-varnish it sometime. It's only made of floor boards. Still eating birthday cake and other leftovers. Ate the liver today with bacon and onions.

Hi everyone, been MIA for a couple of days. Just done two days childcare for DD1. She and S-i-L1 both work away and shifts. So childcare for 2 days is a full 48 hours.

Still eating our way through the freezers, having some odd combinations. Yorkshire puddings with roast beef and meatballs anyone?

Not bought anymore groceries yet, but may need fruit soon. Less than £40 so far and already on 11th of the month. Having to tell the world is keeping the spends down. Minibus still at the garage, over 8 weeks now, and new one not yet mended. Having no car cuts spends.

Hope you are all well, till tomorrow, Mumtoomany.
