Cancelled holiday (hurricane). Need advice regarding extras

I booked a trip to Florida departing 2nd September 2019. Yesterday, I was informed by TUI that my flight had been cancelled due to a hurricane and I would have to either rearrange or cancel the holiday. I chose to cancel, and am receiving a full refund. However, I have purchased extras (Car hire and KSC tickets) not part of the package holiday. I have cancelled the car hire but will only receive a partial refund (about half). I am unable to cancel the KSC tickets as I will not receive any refund. TUI contacted me today to state the flight is back on (but I would have to pay again, having not yet received my refund) so I have declined, as I have insufficient funds to rebook until the refund comes through. I paid for the car hire by credit card, but the tickets through PayPal. I have travel insurance, but there is no mention of excursions or car hire in the policy wording.

Do I have any recourse that would allow me to claim my money back, or must I bite the bullet and move on?

Thanks in advance

Marc

    Was this the Newcastle flight?

Perhaps contact the business that you purchased the Kennedy Space Centre tickets from, explain the circumstances and ask nicely if they will refund or give you a credit.

Perhaps ditto with the car rental company as I would imagine lots of reservations disrupted due to storm.

BTW, TUI had been offering free rescheduling of holidays up to 5 Sep.
  • Yes, the Newcastle flight.

Rescheduling is not an option due to work, but I’m using the refund to book for another trip.

I’ve emailed the KSC company and will phone them tomorrow to discuss. Going back to Florida next year so possibly asking for an exchange. I’ll see what Avis say tomorrow when I call customer services.

    Thanks for the input

Keep in mind in it is Labour Day tomorrow so a holiday period. On top of that any Florida based businesses might be a tad busy with the approaching storm.
  • I know, don’t expect anything to happen straight away. Although KSC tickets were booked through a U.K. based agent, and car hire through Avis UK. New hols is now booked for March by paying deposit but waiting for refund to clear to pay the balance. Next time I’ll pay for things when I get there. May cost a bit extra but worth it just incase.

Overall I feel like I should be annoyed at this whole malarkey but I have no-one to blame but mother nature

When we went we just turned up on the day. There wasn't much of a queue as we got there early. They have plenty of ticket machines dotted around the entrance too if you are paying by card.

Two points to note you pay for parking separately as you turn up. You need ID to get in so take your passport or driving licence.

which days were you booked for KSC.

The way dorian is going the place could be closed for a few more days.
