Should banks have something like this next to their branch cash machines?

The guy in this video clip suggests the idea of banks having a picture of their cash points in the window (and placed so that they can't easily be removed) next to their branch cash points with a message stating that's what their cash points should look like and if they look any different to the picture, assume they've been tampered with, treat as suspicious, report them and do not use them.
I personally think that would be a good idea, but I bet many here for some reason or another wouldn't like the idea at all.

NoThe problem is that good devices are designed to be barely noticeable. Most people would not even know what to look for. They could spend 5 minutes scrutinising and comparing a photograph and would not notice the device - people then get lulled into a false sense of security.I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0

Nope.
They’ll just change the design of the “device” plus it will add time time people using the machine.
Another inane poll....0 -
Not all ATM's are at a bank, or near a window. Not a very practical idea.0

Where would you put the pictures here?:
How easy would it be to view pictures at night? Are you suggesting these pictures should be illuminated when it's dark? Caroline Lucas won't like that.
I don't think I could be bothered to play spot the difference every time I used a cashmachine.
People who are worried about dodgy ATMs should pay for things using a credit or debit card. It amuses me that people withdraw cash from an ATM outside a supermarket to pay for their shopping inside the store.0 -
NoGood idea in theory - in practice it's an unwieldy solution with many points of failure, including many of the shortfalls already suggested. I'm not a lawyer but it would give the *impression* that a bank was negligent if they failed to display the poster, or failed to replace a damaged or defaced poster - or heaven forbid, a tampered poster that tricked somebody into using a modified ATM!
Much simpler to have the standard boilerplate about "Take care of your surroundings, do not use this machine if it appears broken or you suspect it has been tampered with" as it puts the onus on the user - which is as it should be.: )0 -

How do you know what they want the money for...do you follow them in to the supermarket to prove your theory .They might well draw enough out for shopping and a whole host of other things .0 -

Not a theory. Experience.
That's what my mother does.
That's what my sister does.
That's what a friend I shop with every Thursday does. She's quite wealthy, but prefers to pay for everything with cash.
And I have seen, with my own eyes, other people do what I described.0 -

How often do you see someone take cash from a ATM at a petrol station. Walk in and use the cash they still have in their hand to pay....:eek:Life in the slow lane0 -
Just use a free ATM inside any bank/ shop branch as almost all will have LINK access even if it's not your own bank. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
