Hello
Insurance company is due to take payment tomorrw. Their customer services is currently closed as its late.
I gave my credit card details to them a year ago and I rang my bank to ask if they can prevent a further payment tomorrow. Apparently they can't.
Find it hard to swallow I can't control who is able to dip their fingers into my bank account ! Any retailer I've visited over the past couple of years? Then my only redress is them and not the bank?

If you didn't require the cover you should have told them before now.0

Most insurers give you at least 21 days notice so really your own fault for leaving it so late
Also you probably agreed to auto renewal last year in the t’s&c’s meaning you gave them permission to retain and use your card details.
You can control who uses your card by keeping track of your renewal date and acting promptly and advising the insurer you don’t wish to renew. Auto renewal is not a new thingFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
That's a bit harsh...you obviously signed up to an insurance that does auto-renewal and then didn't bother trying to cancel it until the last minute.
Not every retailer can 'dip' into your account ...only those you gave permission to by clicking that you had read their terms and conditions.
Your fault...not theirs.0 -
Why is it difficult for people to use a diary?
I put renewals in iCloud and I also read my snail mail. I’ve always had a renewal notice about 3 weeks prior, not one has been lost in the post over the past few decades.0 -

I had the opposite problem yesterday, my Aviva car insurance needed to renewed (their quote beat all others) and did not auto renew. When I tried to renew online there were problems accessing my quote and it was too late in the day to talk to someone. Ended up going with LV.0

Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.0
