Store card/gift voucher misrepresentation

I received a store gift card as a present. The card shows 6 outlets associated with the gift card. I have tried to 'spend' the gift card online on my preferred outlet but couldnt see how to punch in the card details so made contact by telephone to customer services. Initially I was told the card could be used at all other 5 stores other than the store I wanted to use. I challenged this and was then told the gift card could only be used in store. There is conflicting advice. If the first answer is correct is there a misrepresentation on the card? If the second answer is right then should the customer have been made aware of this when purchasing? It is not possible to read the smallprint on the back of the card due to the colours. Where do I stand? The card expires tomorrow (which I wasnt aware of until today) and I do most of my shopping online.
