No claims discount during active road accident claim

Hi all,

I have an ongoing claim for a traffic accident where I was knocked off my motorcycle by someone in the wrong lane at a roundabout, they haven't admitted liability yet but have paid for my vehicle without prejudice to get me out of a hire contract.

I got another motorcycle as I only have a full UK motorcycle licence and work shifts so need transport.

Luckily my existing insurer allowed me to transfer my new bike onto the existing policy as they said my no claims bonus couldn't be taken into account as the claim is still ongoing.

If the 3rd party insurers keep dragging this out over a long period of time where do I stand?

At the moment I pay around 32 quid a month for insurance but without my no claims it would go up to over 100 a month and the policy ends in february so if it's still ongoing at that time will I have to take out a new policy with no no claims bonus? This effectively makes me look like a new driver.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Your ncb will be stepped back until the claim is fully settled and your insurer has recovered all their outlay

Sometimes once the claim is closed and your ncb is reinstated you maybe able to get a refund on the additional premium you’ve paid

Don’t forget also while your waiting for the claim to be settled you’ll have to declare the claim as a fault accident

  • Thanks for the reply.

Is there any timeframe regarding admitting liability?

I just wonder how long this can be dragged out for.

Unfortunately not really which when you’re the innocent party can be bloody annoying

If the other insurers have paid for your damage, then surely you haven't claimed, and therefore the no claims will not be affected?
  • Once again thanks for the replies.

Amazingly I was contacted today to say the 3rd party have accepted liability, I am pleasantly surprised as I thought this was going to go the distance.

So relieved and the pressure is now off!
