Recurring Debit Card Payments

Options
Hi, i would be very grateful for some advice please.

I am helping my brother sort out his finances. We are switching his bank account to HSBC getting the £175 switch offer. He currently has a recurring card payment via apple pay for a subscription he cant remember the password for, we have tried to stop it before without success. During the switch we had to provide his debit card details, will the recurring card payments transfer to his new account with the switch? We are sincerely hoping not!

Many thanks in advance for any advice offered.

  • The CPA won’t switch, no.

It’s not difficult to cancel - just contact the bank.

Or run a forgotten password request on the subscription account.
  • Great thank you. I have been trying to get my brother to sort this for some time, finally managed to get him to do something about it!

Well it will move when he updates his card details with Apple/i-tunes.
Which password can't he remember, Apple or retailer?

Problem with getting bank to stop it, is it will block all Apple (I-tunes) payment as it works via retailer name/id on the visa system.
Can sometimes work by amount. But if it is a amount that is a common one then again that will cause issues with other spending.

Best bet get the password sorted, or contact Apple or company direct to sort.

  • Thank you. It's his Apple password he can't remember, but its not for itunes, he set it up for a website he doesn't want to subscribe to anymore

You only have on Apple ID - it's the one used to login to iTunes, iCloud etc.
  • Switching by CASS will not transfer continuous payment authorities (CPAs). I'd be careful about just stopping payments without contacting Apple first, as stopping payments won't remove your obligation to pay if you have a contract of some sort - your brother may find he ends up on the hook for the missed money + late fees down the line, potentially even having missed payments/defaults listed on his credit file depending on the nature of the subscription. I'd highly recommend getting in touch with Apple to reset the password and then cancelling the subscription before removing the payment card.

Go to your Apple ID account page and click "Forgot Apple ID or password." If asked to confirm your phone number, use steps for two-factor authentication instead. Enter your Apple ID, select the option to reset your password, then choose Continue.

    Simple enough to do.
