Cost of having ceilings skimmed?

We have just purchased a new house and are looking at the costs of doing it up. The ceilings are covered in artex, really not to our taste!

The bedroom is 18ft x 18ft.

Any ballpark figures to give us an idea?

Thanks

we had a large lounge completely done (walls and ceiling) and 1 other small kitchen wall, for 600 quid.

Good afternoon: £400 for all the ceilings skimmed...excellent job by a local father and son team.

  • Think its like anything else and the more you shop around, the better your deal will be.

Recently had my 12ft x 11ft kitchen skimmed on all walls and ceiling for £300 by a local one man band, all in, and it was a belting job! (And I'm rather picky when it comes to wall smoothness!!! lol)

Sometimes trade schools are a good place to enquire, the apprentices can be awsomely talented and do it for a fraction of the price!!!

If the artex is a thick stipple, you wont be able to just skim it, it will require overboarding or a backing plaster first as a skimming coat can only be laid on to 3-4mm

Depends where you are located also, just a reskim should be around the 2-250 mark.
  • I think I am going to give my plasterer big Christmas bonus, he has done every room in my house over the last year, he is doing my bedroom ceiling next for £80, did my hall, lounge and kitchen including underboarding for £650! (I am in Suffolk)
  • I had my swirled artex skimmed about a month ago. 12 x 12 room cost about £250. Also quoted for my lounge which is slightly larger £270.
