Last year my catalic converter was stolen, I called my insurance company ( go skippy ) they said they would probably write off my car never wanted that so never took it any further and got the car repaired myself, fast forward to today go skippy sent my renewal through I was meant to be on 14 years ncb I'm now on 7 I called them to say theres been a mistake but they said no I lost 5 for the catalytic converter and 2 because I was at fault
First of all no claim was never made I repaired the car private with my own money also how was it my fault the car was parked outside my house at time of theft
They told me to call claims on monday to get them to explain, I'm actually really stressed and upset especially after being a careful driver never having any type of accident or claim for 14 years, moneys tight so was hoping to shop around for a better deal this year now I've got to tell other insurance companys I'm at fault for a claim I never made
Anyone know if this sounds right any help or advice would be appreciated thankyou

the fault nomenclature is not a great way to categorize things
But essentially any claim you make where no recovery was made from a third party will be termed a fault claim,
Any report of any accident which you do not wish to claim will still affect negatively on future premiums due to your risk profile being higher as a result statistically.
Did you protect your no claims?
I am surprised they knocked off your No claims down for not making a financial claim, I would put in a complaint"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

No I never protected it, think it's a bit much to half my no claims
Something dont seem right about that.0 -

regardless of the outcome, you should always protect your NCB, if you have a fault claim it will go down significantly"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

My question is should I lose my NCB if I never actually claimed ?0

Did you really get 14 years discount? In my experience most actually only take 9 years into account.how was it my fault0

I don’t think you should be deducted when you didn’t make a claim, but did you ever inform them you didn’t want to claim and closed the claim?
My guess is you never informed them and it never got closed.
Ask them to close that claim and revise your renewal.
If they don’t agree then make a formal complaint, but hopefully will be sorted fairly easily.
Next time you make an important decision, tell them and get it in writing/email that your claim is closed.0 -
Once all options were discussed on phone I said I would sort it privately so as far as I was concerned a claim was never opened, will call tomorrow and ask that question could be the problem. Thankyou0

Yes this year I would have had 14 yes NCB my certificate from last years had 13 and yes most only take 9 into consideration but that's not the point I now have 7.0
