Giving energy reading from smart meter to Avro energy

I'm just leaving Shell Energy and have to give a meter reading to Avro energy to give my first reading so they can get my opening reading and contact my old supplier and provide a closing reading their guide says give the 5 digits from the left,I have a smart meter and the reading is 0005901.3 kwh on the display so just giving 5 digits doesn't seem correct, looking at other suppliers it says give the first 7 digits so I'm confused and they aren't open today to speak to should I just type in 0005901 ?

That's what I'd do unless there are only five input slots in their entry form. In which case I'd enter 05901

Thanks it's just one long box with no particular amount of digits to add,it's a good job I looked on forums as I found when I do the gas that has to be in m3 rather than kwh,it's all so confusing and for a nervous type like me,I'm always worried that I'm going to enter the wrong thing and get a huge bill.
It's a pain having a smart meter,a few years back when I got the letter from First utility mentioning them I thought it was something that was going to be made cumpulsory as it recommended arranging a visit so I could pick the time of my choice,I wish I hadn't bothered now

But doing a manual reading on a smart meter is just as complicated as reading a non smart meter. So although the smartness of your meter has failed to live up to expectations, doing manual readings is no different really.

Why is it a pain to have a smart meter - they still have numbers on them, just like the old ones. Kwh for leccy and M3 for Gas

Dont use your IHD (in home device) to give meter readings unless you are absolutely sure that it displays the same reading as the meter. Read the meter directly.

Reading various comments on here about certain makes of "smart" meter ,it can be a pain - small ,difficult to read displays which cycle thru various read outs rapidly. I believe that this was a complaint with the SMETS1 meters installed by EDF?
